After singer Justin Timberlake faced an arrest on DWI charges, Spears’ fans jumped at the opportunity and made it about the pop icon.
Her fans are rallying to bring back her 2011 song ‘Criminal‘ back onto the charts in response to Timberlake’s recent arrest. On Tuesday, the ‘Mirrors’ singer was arrested around 12:37 a.m. after police determined he was “operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition.” Here’s how Britney’s fans are meanwhile making the most of it.

Britney Spears’ Fans Bring Back Her Hit ‘Criminal’ To The Charts
Just hours after Justin Timberlake’s arrest, Britney Spears’ fans took to social media and urged the likes of them to buy her hit ‘Criminal‘ from the ‘Femme Fatale‘ album. The album was originally released on September 30, 2011, and the song was a massive hit, still considered one of her best works.
The strategy and efforts by Britney’s fans paid off, as the track quickly climbed to No. 68 on the iTunes Pop Chart at the time of publication. The spike in the song’s popularity coinciding with Britney’s infamous ex-boyfriend Timberlake’s early morning arrest has added a layer of drama to the whole scenario.
However, this is not the first time that Spears’ fans have helped her music resurface on the charts. In January, they rallied around her 2011 single ‘Selfish‘ after Timberlake released a song with the same title. Their efforts were successful at the time too, as Spears’ ‘Selfish‘ stood at No. 1 on the iTunes charts on January 26.
The resurgence of her songs by the efforts of her fans are the result of several revelations that Spears made about her former boyfriend Timberlake in her 2023 memoir, ‘The Woman in Me‘. It led to public feud between the two decades after their bitter fallout. Timberlake faced heavy backlash for it, as the two continued to exchange sharp digs at each other.

Justin Timberlake Arrested For Driving In A Drunk State In New York
The singer was arrested in Sag Harbor, New York, where he allegedly drove his 2025 BMW through a stop sign and failed to stay in his lane, according to the police report. During the traffic stop, the officer noted Timberlake’s “bloodshot and glassy eyes,” “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage,” “slowed speech,” and unsteady footing.
The official also claimed that Timberlake “performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.” When enquired about his alcohol intake, Justin reportedly responded, “I had one martini and I followed my friends home.“
He was then processed at Sag Harbor Police Headquarters, charged with one count of driving while intoxicated, and received citations for running a stop sign and failing to keep in lane. After being held overnight, he was released Tuesday morning on his own recognizance. A court hearing for the matter is scheduled for July 26.
