Britney Spears has again found herself amid drama with her father Jamie Spears. The pop singer has been quite vocal about her strenuous relationship with her family – especially her dad, who appointed himself as her conservator. Years later, it led to a court case where she got the conservatorship terminated.
Though after this, there’s still a possibility that she might have to sit for a deposition at her next hearing. That is, only if her father Jamie gets his way.

Britney Spears’s Father Requests A Deposition
In court documents accessed by Entertainment Tonight, Jamie Spears’ attorneys claim that if his daughter Britney Spears can post about her conservatorship and family problems on Instagram and allegedly write about them in a $15 million tell-all book, she should be able to sit for a deposition.
“Britney’s own publicly-posted Instagram posts aimed at Jamie and soon to be publicly-published book directly contradict Britney’s counsel’s claim that Britney has no admissible evidence and that her testimony is not reasonably calculated to lead to the discovery of admissible evidence,” the document reads.
His legal team argues in the filing that the pop singer’s social media posts have “unsubstantiated claims,” adding, “Britney cannot avoid testifying as a witness because her testimony may delve into emotionally difficult topics … Even a showing of some impact on Britney’s health is not a bar to her deposition in its entirety … That Britney can speak about the very issues she publicly raises (including to cash a $15 million check) but suddenly would be ‘unduly burdened’ by the litigation her counsel initiated is ridiculous.“
Jamie Spears Gave Daughter Britney Lithium, Forced Her To Get IUD Under Conservatorship
This move comes a month after Britney’s attorney Mathew Rosengart filed a motion of his own to demand a deposition from Jamie Spears. He stressed that Jamie was first notified of his deposition request in October 2021 and had not agreed to any of the eight separate dates Rosengart offered to depose him.
Rosengart wrote in his filing, “Mr. Spears can run, but he cannot forever hide from his legal and fiduciary obligations. After using his daughter’s money for more than 13 years to fund his legal fees and expenses, for the first time, Mr. Spears will now have to pay his own legal fees.” In December 2021, Jamie’s legal team requested payment from Britney’s estate for fees and costs associated with ending the conservatorship.
The singer’s father first enacted a conservatorship over her in February 2008 following her divorce from Kevin Federline. Britney accused Jamie of conservatorship abuse, with several allegations, including forcing her to get an IUD despite her wanting another child with longtime boyfriend and now husband Sam Asghari, forcing her to take lithium, making her work against her will and controlling everything from her diet to her debit card.
Jamie stated that it was for her own good. The highly publicized court battles and a popular #FreeBritney campaign ended with the termination of her conservatorship in November 2021.
