American television series ‘Baywatch‘ portrayed lifeguards with otherworldly looks and model-like figures that we viewers only fantasize about. However, these incredibly high beauty standards did not come naturally. ‘Baywatch’ actress, Carmen Electra revealed that she was asked to lose weight while filming the series. Electra played Lani McKenzie in the 1997 series.
Carmen recently attended the ‘After Baywatch: Moment In The Sun’ premiere in Los Angeles where she revealed how she felt pressured to fit into the beauty standards of ‘Baywatch’. ‘After Baywatch’ explores how the 90s drama series gained its popularity. Here’s what the actress said.

‘Baywatch’ Beauty Standards Upset Carmen Electra
Carmen Electra recalled her ‘Baywatch’ days when she was constantly asked to drop the numbers on her weight. She revealed she felt pressured, “because I was always told that I need to lose weight.” Carmen was a ballet dancer as a child and even then she faced the same body tailoring issue. “I grew up studying classical ballet and that was what was happening in my life,” she said.
However, they still pierced through Carmen and made her upset. Talking to ExtraTV she said, “I think as time went on, I would still listen to that and take it to heart.” It seems unfathomable that Carmen would be asked to fit certain beauty standards.

Looking Back, Carmen Electra Loves Her ‘Baywatch’ Figure
It sounds like Carmen Electra does not dwell on the vices of the past although she loved what she had. The actress said, “When I look back, I love my body and I love that I was curvy, and not like, straight up and down.”
Lani McKenzie was the new blonde bombshell of the era and became a common household name at the time. However, she is glad that the sizing vogue is over in the industry.
Carmen stated, “I love being a part of this time era where you can’t just go in and tell someone how they should live, who they should date, and what weight you should be. I love what’s happening now.“
She added, “I feel like everyone is coming to be who they are and it’s very accepted, you know?…. I know who they are, and my heart skips a beat because, without everyone, there wouldn’t be any of this.”
