Heath Ledger Secretly Beat Everyone At Go-Kart Racing
Filming ‘The Dark Knight’ demanded intense performances from its cast, but Ledger didn’t spend every moment immersed in the Joker’s unsettling mindset. According to Bale, he often relaxed by racing go-karts in between shots with members of the cast and crew.

The stunt team naturally entered those races as the favorites. But guess what? Ledger often stunned everyone despite not being a professional racer. Speaking to GQ, Bale recalled watching Ledger outrun the professional stunt drivers with an unthinkable ease.
“He was a wonderful go-kart driver, racer. Yeah, we went and raced the go-karts and holy crap, he beat all the stunt guys and everything.” However, the surprise didn’t end with the race itself. After crossing the finish line ahead of everyone else, Ledger once casually revealed why he looked so comfortable behind the wheel.
“He very quietly mentions, ‘You know, my dad was a go-kart racer,'” Bale said. Well, this revelation explained everything. All this time, Ledger had kept that detail to himself until after he had already beaten everyone on the track. This was just one of Ledger’s memories Bale holds on to.

Bale has spoken several times about the immense respect he had for Ledger as both an actor and a person. He once admitted that Ledger’s magnetic performance as the Joker made him rethink his own approach to Bruce Wayne.
