The ‘Batman’ universe can’t be shut down. Even after not being connected to the wider DCEU, Warner Bros and ‘The Batman‘ director Matt Reeves have plans to expand the franchise. They are launching their own interconnected universe and the upcoming ‘Penguin’ series starring Colin Farrell is a testament to that.
Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot grabbed the attention of fans as he killed it in his villainous role against Robert Pattinson’s caped crusader. ‘The Batman’ certainly made waves at the box office, but fans are now ready to see Penguin’s story in the upcoming series. We have the latest update on the show.

‘Penguin’ Is Bringing Back Colin Farrell
The upcoming ‘The Batman’ villain spinoff tentatively titled ‘Penguin’ has its executive production done by the film’s director Matt Reeves, in collaboration with Dylan Clark, and Farell himself. Lauren LeFranc is also among the EPs, and will also serve as writer and showrunner. The show will focus on the dark character of Cobblepot. Farell, who brought the titular character to light, gave some interesting updates about the series.
He said, “The world that Matt Reeves created for ‘The Batman’ is one that warrants a deeper gaze through the eyes of Oswald Cobblepot. I couldn’t be more excited about continuing this exploration of Oz as he rises through the darkened ranks to become The Penguin. [It] will be good to get him back on the streets of Gotham for a little madness and a little mayhem.”
About the filming, he revealed that he will be in Los Angeles till Christmas. So, the filming of ‘Penguin‘ will start around February next year.
The actor also spoke about the script. “I read the first script of what I think will be six or eight hours. It was so tasty. I was just kind of, ‘Fu*k, nice.'” Farell said.
‘Penguin’ Showrunner Is Channeling Her Inner Villain For The Story
The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc is completely prepared to “channel [her] inner villain” to tell the tale of Oswald Cobblepot in the HBO Max series. “I have long been a fan of the world of ‘The Batman,’ and Matt’s film is such a powerful and bold entry into the canon.”
She continued, “I’m excited and humbled to continue telling stories in the grimy world of Gotham City – and what better excuse to channel my inner villain than to tell the story of Oswald Cobblepot? I am thrilled to work with Colin, Matt, Dylan, 6th & Idaho, Warners, and HBO Max as we work to bring this story to the screen.”
