The 81st Golden Globes Awards were wrapped up on Sunday, leaving behind a lot of meat for gossip. While it was a long-anticipated celebration of great talent, the awards ceremony came with many jabs by the host Jo Koy and some other celebrity happenings in the audience.
It was Jo Koy’s first time hosting such a huge gig. The comedian did not shy away from making jokes about celebrities, some of which were even below the belt according to some critics. Be it Taylor Swift or Robert De Niro, Koy did not spare anyone.
“Complete Embarrassment To Himself And The Academy”: Deidre Hall On Jo Koy’s Jokes
Though Jo Koy had said this was an opportunity of a lifetime for him, his comedic performance faced a lot of critique. Joining the list of people who openly expressed disappointment about Jo Koy’s humor is ‘Days of Our Lives’ star Deidre Hall.
Renowned for her role as Dr. Marlena Evans on the soap opera, Deidre took to Facebook to share how disappointed she is about Koy’s gig. Speaking candidly about Jo Koy’s debut as the host of the awards ceremony, Deidre Hall did not shy away from making crude remarks.
“The Globes Host, Jo Koy, is a complete embarrassment to himself and the Academy. Skip it,” she wrote in the post. Her post ignited a response from fans who were on the same page as her. “He is so inappropriate for this job, I agree 100%,” a user wrote, to which Deidre replied, “Well said.”
Other than Hall, many others across the globe gave mixed reviews about Jo Koy’s Golden Globes hosting. While many noted that several of his jokes fell flat and did not resonate well with the audience, some others opined it was all in the faith of sporting humor.

Jo Koy Admits Golden Globes Gig Was Challenging, Says It Was A “Tough Room”
The comedian himself accepted that it was indeed a challenging task for him to navigate through the gig without coming off as offensive. Defending his efforts on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’, Koy said, “It was a moment I’ll always remember. It’s a tough room. It was a hard job, I’m not going to lie…I’d be lying if (I said) it doesn’t hurt.”
Some reports suggest that Jo Koy stepped into the hosting role after other comedians, including Chris Rock, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes, declined the offer. However, the criticism he is received worldwide does not seem to have affected Koy all that much.
Some particularly criticized jokes by Koy include the one he made on Taylor Swift, where he claimed that there are fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift at the Golden Globes than there are at the NFL games she attends to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce. The camera caught Swift’s disapproving reaction as she sipped champagne in response to the remark.
Koy later defended the joke, explaining that he intended to mock the NFL’s use of cutaways, but it didn’t come across as planned. In another questionable joke, Jo Koy described the film ‘Barbie’ as “based on a plastic doll with big b**bs“.
