James Cameron is one of the most commercially successful filmmakers in Hollywood. His films are known for pushing storytelling and new technologies to their limits. One of the most successful and prominent franchises in his career has to be the ‘Terminator‘; Cameron directed two films in it.
In the third film, the mantle was handed over to someone else. Since then, Cameron has not directed a single film in the franchise. There were reports that the Canadian director secretly wished for the third installment to fail at the box office. So let’s find out if it’s true or not.

James Cameron Shares His Views On ‘Terminator 3’
James Cameron directed ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day‘ in 1991 which turned out to be a major critical and commercial success. It was followed by ‘Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.‘
The film, which was made without Cameron’s involvement, was released in 2003. According to Black Film, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was in the third installment, revealed something about Cameron’s beliefs about the film.
“He has a part of him that wants the movie to succeed and a part of him that wants it to fail“, he said. “He has mixed emotions because he started it and I think this one time-wise, it didn’t work out and he didn’t want to be part of it under those constraints that it has to be a summer movie 2003 and he has to do it. He doesn’t operate that way. I totally appreciate that.”
The director corroborated Schwarzenegger’s comments and stated that a part of him “hoped it wasn’t good“, but he is glad that the film succeeded at the box office.

Rise And Fall Of The ‘Terminator’ Franchise
Cameron’s debut film was ‘The Terminator‘ which chronicled a robot sent from the future to kill a girl. The film was made on a small budget and ended up becoming a major critical and financial success.
It was followed by a sequel that upped the first film in every possible way; particularly in terms of the use of visual and special effects in a motion picture at that time. Since then, Cameron has distanced himself from the franchise.
However, he served as a producer of ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’, which turned out to be a massive failure. Over the years, the quality of films in the franchise has deteriorated. He has said that he has been thinking about directing a film in the franchise, but nothing has been decided.
