In a moving homage, the recently released ‘Descendants‘ film has paid tribute to the late popular Disney Channel star Cameron Boyce, who died in 2019. Boyce —who gained popularity as Carlos in the ‘Descendants‘ — left a lasting impression on both fellow workers and audiences with his lively talent and contagious attitude.
A tribute to his legacy, the next instalment of the franchise celebrates his contributions to the series and the enduring influence he left behind during his brief but extraordinary career. Here’s how the film is paying tribute to Cameron Boyce.
Here’s How ‘Descendants’ Honoured Cameron Boyce
Cameron Boyce, who played a key role in the first three ‘Descendants’ films, left a significant mark on the industry after he passed away. Though it has been half a decade since his passing, Disney’s ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’ has paid a moving homage to the actor.
The new film, which debuted on Disney Plus today, opens with China Anne McClain’s character staring up at a picture of Cameron Boyce’s Carlos. But, the action picks up quickly as Auradon Prep welcomes evil kids who are considerably wiser than she is.
Even though not much is stated, it is acknowledged that Carlos is no longer with them and that he would be pleased with all of the improvements. This gesture didn’t go unnoticed by fans as they noticed the small reference which served as genuine respect and admiration for the actor.

Cameron Boyce In ‘Descendants’
A beloved character in Disney’s ‘Descendants‘ series, Carlos portrayed by Cameron Boyce brought charm, humour, and nuance to the franchise and was definitely a fan favourite.
Because of his evil upbringing, Carlos, the son of Cruella de Vil, first battles with worries and insecurities, but as the story progresses, he transforms into a brave and devoted friend who personifies the concepts of self-acceptance and atonement.
There’s a scene in one of the films of the franchise that confirms that Boyce isn’t coming back. “I wish Carlos could’ve been here,” Mal says in ‘Descendants: The Royal Wedding‘, to which her friends respond, “We all do.” It signaled to fans that Carlos would not be replaced, even if it did not reveal where he was.
