Why Elizabeth Olsen Didn’t Watch ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Screener
Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was an integral part of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ which starred Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role. However, she missed the chance to go to the film’s premiere. She then asked Disney to send a screener so that she could watch the movie, but what came her way disappointed her. Apparently, the watermark was too “distracting” and she refused to watch it.
She explained the reason to host Jimmy Fallon on ‘The Tonight Show’. The actress said, “I’m not one of those [actors who doesn’t watch her own movies]. I’m one of those people who likes to study something so I can figure out how to make it better. But I had a cold when we had the premiere and I didn’t want to sit through it. And so I asked them to send a copy so I could watch it, and it had my name on it and it had the time that I was watching it, and I didn’t want to watch it like that. My name was on it and the exact time and date. It’s just distracting.”
When Fallon pointed out that Marvel adds watermarks to protect their projects from being sold illegally, Olsen had her own set of questions: “How do you even do that? Who do you even send it to? How do you even record it on a computer?”
Scarlet Witch’s Future In The MCU
Elizabeth Olsen admitted that she is unclear about the future of her character Scarlet Witch in the MCU. At the end of “Doctor Strange 2”, it was unknown if the character survived. It could be possible that she went into hiding as the Darkhold took a toll on her. Given it’s Marvel, everyone knows they are capable of bringing back characters with interesting twists and plotlines.
The actress had earlier expressed her desire to portray an older Wanda Maximoff. About her MCU future, she said, “I kind of imagined myself one day with like prosthetics and silver hair and like playing her as this like like older wise woman and so I do have this kind of this dream of ageing her quite a bit.” As for ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, you can stream it on Disney+.
