Throughout his run of six seasons on ‘The Eric André Show’, Eric André has faced multiple injuries. Though it had become more like a routine at one point, the comedian once faced a major injury that landed him in a hospital for a concussion.
It happened during the 5th episode of the season and John Cena hurled him through a shelf. Even though it was a skit, the actor was hit by a metal arrangement on the shelf. Here’s what happened.
On-Set Injuries Are Not New For Eric André
Eric André recently opened up about his tendency to get injured while on the sets of ‘The Eric André Show’. “It’s pretty common,” André told People, recalling the 5th episode of this season.
“I got through the shelf okay, but we forgot to sandbag the shelf — the frame of the shelf — so the metal frame tipped over and knocked me in the head. I got a concussion and went to the hospital,” he said.
Another time, André recalled putting his hand out of the window while filming a prank video. “I was trying to hammer the window, but my whole hands went through,” he said. “It sliced me up, and I had to get stitches. I had to go to the hospital for that,” he added.
All these events are just part of his show and are the true essence of it. The Adult Swim comedy satirizes the show with many guests including Jon Hamm, Jimmy Kimmel, Natasha Lyonne, and Tinashe as part of various episodes.
“(They) have no idea what they’re getting into. Even if they did thorough research, they watch every episode, and they’re super fans, once you sit in that chair, and explosives are being detonated, and flying African hissing cockroaches are coming out of my coffee mug? It doesn’t matter how prepared you are,” he added.

Eric André’s Show Has Received Great Recognition
‘The Eric André Show’ show has gained two Emmy nominations for comedy this year: one for outstanding performer in a short-form comedy or drama series and another for outstanding short-form comedy, drama, or variety series. He was “over the moon” when he received the news of his win.
“We’ve been doing the show for over 10 years, so to even just get the acknowledgement of the nomination [is amazing],” he says. “But I get a little superstitious about this stuff. I’ll celebrate if I get one of those trophies in my hand,” he said.
André has high hopes for the future of the show. He also said that he wants to bring Ghislaine Maxwell on as a guest. “She’s got stories to tell, man,” he said, adding that he also aspires to do an episode underwater, stating that it would be “surreal and majestic”.
When not performing on the stage, the actor-comedian leads a healthy and balanced life off-screen.
