Eric Roberts is extending an olive branch towards sister Julia Roberts, as the actor issued a public apology to his sister in his highly anticipated memoir that includes many other revelations about his life.
The sibling duo has had a sour relationship since Eric tried to take credit for Julia’s highly successful career after her Oscar win. Here’s what the actor has said in his apology years after the feud, and more confessions he has made in his memoir.
Eric Roberts Apologises To Julia Roberts Years After Their Feud
In 2018, Eric Roberts infamously made a snide remark about Julia Roberts as he spoke to Vanity Fair, where he took credit for the actress’ success. “If it wasn’t for me, there would be no Julia Roberts and no Emma Roberts as celebrities, as actresses, and I’m very proud of that,” he had said. This laid down the foundation of his rivalry with Julia, as he added, proudly, “And I am so proud that everybody knows I was first, because I was first by a long shot. I was first to get Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations, so I’m proud of that.”

In his new memoir, however, Eric is trying to make amends as he talks about his words and says, “I hope Julia will accept this public apology. It was an asinine thing to have said.”
He also added how his drug abuse led to him having strained relationships with his sisters. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they suffered from PTSD from when it was dangerous to be around me. Lisa and Julia needed love and protection — instead they got fear and uncertainty,” he said.
Eric Roberts Gets Vulnerable In His Memoir
Eric Roberts opens up on how his drug abuse sabotaged his relationship with his daughter Emma and sister Julia, adding that it was one of the reasons why he chose to write the book. He claims that his relationship with Julia broke down after she backed his ex-wife Kim Cunningham during Emma Roberts’ custody dispute, while he was abusing cocaine.
Although he acknowledges that it was the right choice, he also expresses his feelings about his relationship with them. “Of course, the biggest consequence of my drug use was losing Emma,” he writes in the memoir.

“I imagine I will remain as Julia’s brother and Emma Roberts’ dad for the rest of my life. I’d like to make good on that, to move aside proudly and with grace. That’s part of the reason for writing the book,” he added.
The memoir titled ‘Runaway Train: Or, The Story of My Life So Far‘ is available for sale.
