The release of Netflix‘s ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story‘ has inspired a ‘Justice for Erik and Lyle‘ movement. Erik and Lyle Menendez were convicted of first-degree murder of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez. However, the brothers claimed that it was in self-defense of their father’s physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
Last week, the family and friends of the brothers gathered in front of a Los Angeles courthouse pleading for their release. The brothers have filed pleas for re-sentencing before, but failed. In light of his family’s efforts, Erik was deeply touched. Here’s what he said.
Erik Menendez Is Touched By The Nationwide Movement For Their Release
In response to the ‘Justice for Erik and Lyle’ movement, Erik Menendez conveyed his gratefulness through his wife, Tammi Menendez. Tammi took to TikTok to share how her husband was touched by his family’s efforts for his release.
Alongside a thread of family pictures, a message read, “Erik feels deeply grateful and profoundly humbled by the overwhelming outpouring of love and support from his family today.” On October 16, the family and friends of the Menenzed brothers held a press conference, encouraging people to sign an online petition for their release.
The post continued, “Their belief in him and encouragement, care, and understanding mean more to him than words can express. Today has been a beautiful testament to the power of forgiveness and family, and Erik is truly blessed to be embraced by such kindness and support.”
Menendez Brothers: Monsters Or Victims?
The release of the Netflix crime documentary has divided the public into two segments. A major movement has stirred up in defense of Erik and Lyle Menendez that advocates the brothers are victims of sexual abuse. Meanwhile, there are some celebrities and family members of the brothers who think they deserve their sentence.

Previously, the creator of the second season of the ‘Monsters’ series, Ryan Murphy stated that Erik and Lyle were playing the dirty victim card and did not support their actions. The Brother of Kitty Menendez, Milton Anderson believes the brothers were rightly convicted and should not appeal for a re-sentencing.
Erik and Lyle have applied for several pleas since they were convicted but they were not accepted by court. However, with the support of the mass public movement the brothers might have a chance at re-sentencing.
