The Gaza Strip, evidently a Palestinian region, is burning after a skirmish between Hamas, the militant group, and the Israeli Defense Force broke out. The conflict between Israel and Palestine has been going on for almost a century. Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian lands near the Gaza Strip and West Bank has led to bloody conflicts in the region. Over the years, many celebrities have extended support to either side, but the Hadid sisters, Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid, have a special connection to the Palestine cause.
Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid’s father, Mohammed Hadid, had to flee Palestine for Syria. He was born in Palestine. So, Gigi and Bella had always carried the Palestinian traditions. From posting about paintings that belonged to their late grandfather to flaunting their Henna designs, the Hadid sisters have always expressed pride in their culture. Bella has been criticized by far-right wingers for showing her support for Palestine. Gigi Hadid has done that too, but recently she posted a neutral statement, pleading to save the lives of their children.

Gigi Hadid Feels Dual Responsibility Towards Palestine And Her Jewish Friends
Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. As a response to the attack, Israel launched ‘Operation Swords of Iron’. As of Monday, many civilians, including children, have been killed in Gaza. Hamas has also taken dozens of people hostage. 1200 people were killed in Israel, and 900 people were killed in Gaza due to the war.
Celebrities like Amy Schumer, Gal Gadot, Florence Pugh, Kylie Jenner, and Jamie Lee Curtis extended their support for Israel. Celebrities like Mia Khalifa have extended their support to Palestine. People were awaiting a response from supermodel Bella Hadid, but she has been silent on the matter. But her sister, Gigi Hadid, has released a statement on the ongoing Israel and Palestine war.
Gigi Hadid formulated a statement that sympathized with both sides. She wrote, “My thoughts are with all those affected by this unjustifiable tragedy and every day that innocent lives are taken by this conflict – too many of which are children. I have deep empathy and heartbreak for the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation, it’s a responsibility I hold daily.”
However, to neutralize her statement, Gigi Hadid also extended support to Jewish people. She doesn’t want any Jewish person to be hurt while the supermodel supports the Palestinian cause. Gigi added, “I also feel a responsibility to my Jewish friends to make it clear, as I have before While I have hopes and dreams for Palestinians, none of them include the harm of a Jewish person. The terrorizing of innocent people is not in alignment with & does not do any good for the ‘Free Palestine’ movement.”

The Supermodel Clears Air That Pro-Palestinian Is Not Anti-Semitic
Gigi Hadid acknowledges the decades-long conflict that both Israel and Palestine endured despite several peace accords. However, since Hamas came into power in Palestine in 2006, authoritarian governance has disturbed the peace as the country continues to free Palestine from the shackles of aggressive colonialism. The conflict between Jewish settlers and Palestinians has intensified with the IDF closing its boundaries.
Gigi Hadid emphasized that people who are fighting for a ‘Free Palestine’ cause are not necessarily anti-Semitic. She continued, “The idea that it does has fueled a painful, decades long cycle of back & forth retaliation (which no innocent civilian, Palestinian or Israeli, deserves to be a casualty of) and helps perpetuate the false idea that being Pro-Palestine = antisemitic.”
Gigi added, “If you are hurting as I share my condolences today with my loves ones, both Palestinian and Jewish, I’m sending you my love and strength – whoever and wherever you are.”
Gigi Hadid concluded, writing, “There are a lot of complex, personal and valid feelings, but every human deserves basic rights, treatment and security; no matter their nationality, religion, ethnicity or where they were born. I know my words will never be enough or heal the deep wounds of so many, but I pray for the safety of innocent lives, always.
