Usher‘s halftime show performance was one of the most celebrated highlights of the Super Bowl. The star was joined by several other performers for the highly anticipated show. Ahead of the Super Bowl’s big night, there was much speculation about the superstar names likely to grace the Super Bowl stage. One of those names was Justin Bieber.
Though Bieber was also seen reaching Las Vegas ahead of the Super Bowl, he did not perform alongside Usher. Reports also suggested that there could be some beef between the old pals, because of which the ‘Baby‘ singer did not join Usher. However, Usher himself has now opened up about the reason why Bieber did not join him.

“It Didn’t Work Out With Justin”: Usher Sets Record Straight Amid Rumors About Super Bowl Halftime Show
Amid a variety of rumors about Justin Bieber’s absence from the Super Bowl stage, Usher has finally set the record straight by shedding light on why the star didn’t join him for the Halftime Show. In an interview with ‘The Breakfast Club‘ radio show, the Grammy winner revealed that it didn’t work out with Bieber because he wanted to “tell a different story“ at this point in his career.
“You know what, it didn’t work out with Justin,” the 45-year-old Grammy said on the radio show. “I honor and recognize that my brother … I think that it might’ve been the fact that he is just wanting to tell a different story right now and I understand that,” he added.
Usher mentored Bieber as a teen starting in the music industry in the late 2000s and early 2010s. The two stars therefore share an old relationship. Usher said he had “a brief conversation” with him and that they decided they’ll collaborate “in the future.”
Though Bieber refused to join Usher despite his invitation, Usher has maintained his respect for Bieber intact. “No love lost or anything like that,” Usher added.

“He Has A Career That Deserves It”: Usher Says He Is Confident About Justin Bieber’s Success
Usher further clarified that he respected Bieber’s decision to watch the game and Usher’s performance from a VIP box with his wife Hailey in Las Vegas instead of joining him on stage. He further expressed immense confidence in Bieber’s future.
“He has a career that deserves it. It just didn’t happen, but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to,” he explained. “He’s gonna play the Super Bowl. I’ll go ahead and give you that in the future,” he said.
Usher curated an impressive lineup for the Halftime Show, including Alicia Keys, H.E.R., Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon, Ludacris, and Will.i.am. He also spoke about reaching out to several potential collaborators during the radio show.
The star-studded performance was watched by 30.1 million households, which surpassed last year’s viewership.
Bieber has maintained a relatively low profile in the music world for a while because of his diagnosis with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that temporarily paralyzed a part of his face. The star also canceled the remaining dates of his ‘Justice’ tour in 2022. He made a comeback performance at an NHL All-Star party earlier this month.
