Akon About Kanye West “White Lives Matter” Shirt

    Akon and Kanye West

Akon attempted to explain West’s recent comments- including his controversial “White Lives Matter” shirt. The 49-year-old said: “It’s his personal opinion, [however] his opinion doesn’t always matter, especially in certain instances.” He continued: “Kanye has been around the world and back, both on earth and spiritually to a point that a lot of things make sense to him, that doesn’t make sense to us.”

“When you speak from the present, it has to make sense with the past. When he made that comment, he should have had the past in his account before…” Akon elaborated. “Because the words ‘Black Lives Matter’ wasn’t just a phrase somebody woke up one day and made. It was a history of behaviour, a history of racism. When Ye said whatever….he was only thinking about that moment.”

On the topic of White Lives Matter, Akon added: “Every life matters. But in order for all lives to matter today, specifically black lives have to be protected, for everybody else to even feel safe enough to matter”

    Akon

In an interview that aired this week, Akon discussed a slew of misconceptions about Africa and some of Kanye West‘s controversial actions. Akon noted that one of the misconceptions in South Africa is the state of affairs. “Since the power has been taken over, the government is 90% black running it,” says Akon. “This is a true story.”

“And the white folk are screaming about equality, saying ‘It’s not fair’. So exactly what is happening in America, is happening in South Africa,” says Akon. He then quipped, whilst laughing: “White Lives Matter – in South Africa 100%. Kanye got the right shirt in the wrong country”
