The wizarding world is abuzz with the news that HBO is planning a new ‘Harry Potter‘ TV series. It promises to dive deep into J.K. Rowling‘s beloved books. With the series set to run for 10 years and cover all seven books, fans are both excited and nervous about what changes might be made from the original films.
Among those eagerly awaiting the show’s debut is Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny Weasley in the original movie adaptations. Wright has one major hope for the new series: that it finally gives her character the depth and development she deserves.
Bonnie Wright Wants More Nuances For Her Character
Ginny Weasley, Harry Potter’s fierce and loyal love interest, didn’t get the spotlight she deserved in the movies. Fans of the books have long complained about how Ginny’s character was watered down in the films. And it seems Wright agrees with them, hoping that the new TV series will right some of those wrongs.
In a recent interview with Variety, Wright shared, “[I want to see] more of the development of the relationship between Ginny and Harry.” She’s excited about the potential to explore the “nuanced moments” where their relationship begins to bloom.
“There’s nuanced moments of where they begin to fall in love,” Wright said. “I think more of that arc of her character becoming this real loyal sidekick to Harry and how she really understands and knows his story and who he is and is the best partner for him.“
Will The New Harry Potter Do Ginny Weasley Justice?
Bonnie Wright didn’t stop at discussing her own character’s development. She pointed out that the films left out critical moments for several beloved characters, not just Ginny.
“So I just hope we see that evolution of that character — and so many characters,” she added. “There are so many characters that have moments I love from the books — Neville and Luna — so I’m hoping as a fan of the books that I get to see more.”
Ginny is the younger sister of Harry’s best friend, Ron. She was mostly shown as a background character until the sixth movie. She quickly became Harry’s uncontested soulmate in the franchise thereafter.

In the books, Ginny was more of a well-rounded person who had her own interests and storylines. She was shown to be a great Quidditch player and unafraid to stand up for what’s right, regardless of who she was up against. However, these parts have been partially or entirely omitted in the films, rendering the readers disappointed.
it now remains to be seen whether or not the upcoming show compensates for the films’ shortcomings despite their tremendous success.
