When Did Matt Damon And Ben Affleck Meet?
Ben first met Matt in the 1980s, when they were 8 and 10 respectively in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It was probably fate that made the two young and aspiring actors live two blocks away from each other. According to Parade, Ben said, “Before Matt, I was by myself. Acting was a solo activity where I’d just go off and do something, act in a little TV show or something, and no one understood it. None of the other kids knew what it was I did, how it worked, or anything.” No sooner did they become friends than their mutual love for acting was revealed and the two set out on their journey to Hollywood together.
Damon related in the TV show how Ben won his undying trust and love by defending the former in a school fight. “He will put himself in a really bad spot for me. This is a good friend,” said Damon. By their teen age, both were confident that they wanted their future in acting. Both would travel to New York City together to give auditions.
Ben told Parade, “We’d take the train. Or sometimes we’d even take the airplane, back when there was the Eastern Shuttle or People’s Express,” He continued, “It cost like $20 to fly and you could smoke on the plane. We were smoking like idiots because we thought we were really supposed to be grown-up. It was pitiful.” Both got their first break together when they starred in the teen drama, ‘School Ties’. Damon was one of the leads in the movie as Charlie Dillon and Ben had the supporting role of Chesty Smith.
