After a long and bumpy road with Marvel’s ‘Blade’, Mahershala Ali‘s career has just taken a major turn. The actor never got the chance to bring the vampire hunter to the big screen, but years of preparation helped him make ‘Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother’.
And surprisingly, Marvel’s involvement with ‘Blade’ actually helped boost the new movie.
‘Blade’s Years Of Lost Training Turned Into A Weapon For Ali’s New Movie
Ali had years of preparation for ‘Blade’, training in sword and combat skills. The film was originally announced in 2019, but it has been a rocky road through Hollywood, with changes in writers and directors and repeated delays.

And he didn’t let that preparation go to waste and instead transferred those skills to ‘Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother’, the new action film that never got off the ground with the Marvel project.
“There’s no way we could’ve done this film, and I got to go train for a year. So at this point I’m grateful they made a wonderful contribution to our film,” he shared. And that makes the situation feel almost surreal.
Marvel Unknowingly Helped Create ‘Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother’
Marvel not only helped Ali prepare for the movie, but they also actually contributed to the production of ‘Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother’. Ali said he was happy that Marvel “made a wonderful contribution to our film,” and that he didn’t go through a year or two of frustration for nothing.

That makes ‘Blade‘s troubled past a little easier to swallow. After years of delays and uncertainty, Ali had already made it clear that he was no longer holding out hope that the Marvel movie would actually come to fruition.
Now, the training and resources related to that unfinished project are getting a second life. Ali never had the chance to become Blade, but the work he did for Marvel helped him create something outside the MCU, and honestly, there’s something strangely satisfying about that full-circle ending.
