Madonna‘s brother Christopher Ciccone passed away at 63 years of age after fighting cancer for some time. As the entire music industry mourns the loss, Madonna has also paid a very personal tribute to her brother on Instagram.
The pop icon said that she tried her best to save her brother, as she also remembered their bond in dancing, which was the “superglue” that held them together through their very chaotic childhood. Here’s everything she said about her dead brother.
Madonna Reminisces Over The Bond She Shared With Her Brother
Madonna is mourning the death of her beloved brother after he lost a long fight with cancer. “As I am writing, my brother Christopher is gone,” the singer wrote in her post. “He was the closest human to me for such a long time. It’s hard to explain our bond, but it grew out of an understanding that we were different, and society was going to give us a hard time for not following the status quo,” she added.
Madonna further noted that while growing up in a small Midwestern town, she and Christopher found a nurturing outlet in dance, which rescued them both in ways they didn’t yet understand. “Discovering Dance [sic] in our small Midwestern town saved me and then my brother came along, and it saved him too,” Madonna reminisced.
“My ballet Teacher, also named Christopher — created a safe space for my brother to be Gay [sic]. a word that was not spoken or even whispered where we lived,” she added. She also stated that her brother ended up running after her to New York City where they started their careers as a dancer. He eventually became her creative director, overseeing several of her most successful tours such as ‘Blonde Ambition World Tour‘ and ‘The Girlie Show‘.
Madonna further praised her brother as a great artist and a person. “He was a painter, a poet, and a visionary,” Madonna wrote, praising her brother’s impeccable taste and sharp tongue, which she admitted he sometimes used against her.
Madonna Had Rough Patches In Her Relationship With Her Brother
However, the sibling relationship was not always smooth sailing. Christopher Ciccone and Madonna had an ugly fallout a couple of times in their life. In his 2008 biography, ‘Life With My Sister Madonna‘, he made some atrocious allegations against the music icon’s life and romantic relationships.
The two reconciled in 2012 briefly but had a fallout again in 2017 when Ciccone bashed Madonna as he called her “horrifying” and “difficult” to watch perform live. However, they reconciled again before his last days.
