“I Like Playing That Character”: Viggo Mortensen Is Open To Reprising His Role In Future ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Films

There is some great news for the Lord Of The Rings’ fans as Warner Bros studios has recently declared that there will be a new movie soon in the franchise. And the cherry on the top is that actor Viggo Mortensen has revealed that he would reprise his role if the opportunity to return to the role presents itself.

The 65-year-old actor plays the role of Aragorn in the franchise. Aragorn was a Ranger of the North and the heir of Isildur, an ancient King of Arnor and Gondor. He is one of the protagonists of the franchise. Aragon has a big fan following and is one of the most important characters in the franchise. The character’s return is therefore a delightful news for the show’s fans.

While promoting his new movie ‘The Dead Don’t Hurt’, Mortensen revealed in an interview in The Jess Cagle Show that he is open to the idea of returning to Middle-Earth if asked. “It’d be great to revisit that universe. But I don’t know how that would happen exactly. Of course I’m open to it,” he said.

The ‘Falling’ star also revealed that he is still in contact with all of his co-stars. “I think the other guys, which are much more social media savvy than I am, they may have more things, and I know they go to conventions and do lots of things involved in that universe, but we stay in touch,” Mortensen said.

We just lost one of our best friends, Bernard Hill, who played King Théoden, who appears first and the second and the third. Great actor, really good friend. And we all communicated about him,” he continued.

All About ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’: The New Upcoming Movie In The Franchise

Warner Bros has recently announced that a new film in the franchise is set to release in 2026. ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’ is the new movie which will be based on Andy Serkis’ Gollum. It has been revealed that original trilogy filmmaker Peter Jackson and his partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens will be producing the movie.

Nothing much has been revealed except for this. It is not known for certain whether Viggo Mortensen will be part of the movie or if any original actor will return. Warner Bros studios said that the screenplay is currently in the making and it will “explore storylines yet to be told,”

“I don’t know exactly what the story is, I haven’t heard. Maybe I’ll hear about it eventually,” Mortensen said in an interview with GQ. “I like playing that character. I learned a lot playing the character. I enjoyed it a lot. I would only do it if I was right for it in terms of, you know, the age I am now and so forth. I would only do it if I was right for the character. It would be silly to do it otherwise,” he admitted.

So there is a fair chance that he will return in the role or have a cameo in the upcoming film.
