    ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Cast: Where Are They Now?

    The Lord of the Rings‘ is an epic fantasy series, written by J.R.R Tolkien. The series of three films titled, ‘The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)’, ‘The Two Towers (2002)’, and ‘The Return of the King (2003)‘, are directed by Peter Jackson. The film surrounds a hobbit Frodo Baggins after he finds a ring that possesses certain powers. It is set in the fictional world of the Middle-Earth. ‘The Lord of the Rings‘ is one of the greatest and most influential film series ever made. It was the highest-grossing film series of all time with $2.991 billion in worldwide receipts.

    Elijah Wood, Liv Tyler, and Ian McKellen are just some of the cast members who came into the limelight for playing a role in this series. But, these actors certainly didn’t stop at that. Let’s take a look at the current lives and post-‘LOTR’ projects that they worked on.

    Elijah Wood

    Elijah Wood plays Frodo Baggins in ‘The Lord of the Rings‘ franchise. In 2021, he starred in the crime film ‘No Man of God‘. And currently, he’s filming the movie, ‘The Toxic Avenger‘, which stars Kevin Bacon, Jacob Tremblay, and ‘Game of Thrones‘ veteran Peter Dinklage. The actor also welcomed his first child in 2019 with Danish producer Mette-Marie Kongsved.

    Ian McKellen

    Ian McKellen plays the character of Gandalf in the movies. McKellen is 83 years old, and has played Hamlet, of all roles, and featured a new production of Chekhov’s ‘The Cherry Orchard‘ in recent years. He additionally starred in other major films including ‘Cats‘, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘The Good Liar’, and ‘Mr. Holmes’.

    Orlando Bloom

    Orlando Bloom plays Legolas in ‘The Lord of the Rings‘. Legolas is a Sindarin Elf from the Woodland Realm of Northern Mirkwood. In September 2022, it has been five years since Orlando Bloom appeared on the big screen as Will Turner in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.‘ Bloom got engaged to Katy Perry in 2019, and the couple welcomed daughter Daisy in 2020.

    Viggo Mortensen

    Viggo Mortensen plays Aragorn in ‘The Lord of the Rings‘. Aragorn was a descendant of Elros Tar-Minyatur through the line of the Lords of Andúnië to Elendil, High King of Arnor and Gondor. Mortensen was cast as British cave diver Rick Stanton in the biographical film ‘Thirteen Lives‘ directed by Ron Howard which was released in July 2022. Before that in 2019, he was nominated for his third Academy Award after starring in ‘Green Book‘.

    Sean Astin

    Sean Astin plays Samwise Gamgee in the movies. Gamgee was a hobbit of the Shire. He was Frodo Baggins’ gardener and best friend. Oscar nominee Astin has signed on to star alongside fellow ‘Stranger Things’ alum Matthew Modine in the cycling drama, ‘Hard Miles‘. The 2021 Academy Nicholl Fellow R.J. Daniel Hanna is directing the show from his and Christian Sander’s script.

    Liv Tyler

    Liv Tyler plays Arwen Undomiel in ‘The Lord of the Rings‘. She was the daughter of Elrond and Celebrían. Undomeil was one of the half-elven, married to Aragorn II. After putting away the elf ears, Tyler continued to enjoy a steady career, including some acclaimed turns in movies She appeared in ‘The Incredible Hulk’ and ‘Ad Astra‘. She also had prominent roles in multiple TV series like, ‘The Leftovers’, ‘Harlots‘, and ‘9-1-1: Lone Star‘.

    Cate Blanchett

    Cate Blanchett plays the ‘Lady’ of the woods of Lothlórien, ‘Galadriel’ in ‘LOTR‘. Blanchett has a new movie coming out in 2022 titled ‘TÁR‘. She is one of the most talented actresses of her generation and a two-time Oscar winner. She worked in high-profile movies like ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, ‘Cinderella’, ‘Carol’, and ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’.

    Andy Serkis

    Andy Serkis plays Gollum in ‘The Lord of the Rings‘. Serkis will direct the highly anticipated ‘Animal Farm‘, the upcoming adaptation of George Orwell’s classic novel. The project has been in the works since 2012 when Serkis first announced his adaptation. The actor shares three kids with his wife Lorraine Ashbourne. He has also appeared in movies like ‘13 Going on 30′, ‘King Kong’, and ‘Black Panther’.

    Sean Bean

    Sean Bean plays Boromir in ‘The Lord of the Rings‘. After his role in the film series, he now stars alongside Nicola Walker in writer-director Stefan Golaszewski’s new BBC drama ‘Marriage‘. The show is about a middle-aged couple who have been together for 27 years.

    John Rhys-Davies

    John Rhys-Davies plays Gimli in LOTR movies. After ‘LOTR‘, he worked in films such as ‘Aquaman’, ‘Anaconda 3: Offspring‘, and ‘The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement‘. He also appeared on several TV shows like, ‘Once Upon a Time‘, ‘Shadowtown’, and ‘The Shannara Chronicles’. Rhys is still a working actor, and he spends a lot of his time traveling the world meeting fans at various conventions. 

    Dominic Monaghan

    Dominic Monaghan plays Meriadoc Brandybuck in ‘LOTR‘. He is currently starring as detective Paul Sarno in the AMC+ drama ‘Moonhaven‘, and as a Sherlock Holmes villain in the Audible podcast series ‘Moriarty: The Devil’s Game’. He says that he’s very grateful for his life. Monaghan appeared on several other shows such as’ Bite Club’, ‘100 Club’, and ‘Flash Forward’. He even starred in ‘Lost‘.

    Billy Boyd

    Billy Boyd plays Pippin Took in Lord of the Rings. He portrayed Nick Chopper in the TV mini-series ‘The Witches of Oz‘, and has been seen on various TV series, most notably ‘Outlander’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘. His most recent part was on the Netflix mini-series ‘Hollywood‘ where he played English playwright, actor, and singer Noel Coward.

    Hugo Weaving

    Hugo Weaving plays Elrond in ‘LOTR’ movies. Weaving has only one appearance in an upcoming film as of now, with a supporting role in ‘Loveland’, an independent science-fiction romance film by independent filmmaker Ivan Sen.

    Miranda Otto

    Miranda Otti plays Eowyn in the Lord of the Rings movie. The actor will once again reprise her role as the tenacious leader with a key voice role in ‘The War of the Rohirrim‘. She shares her daughter Darcey with her husband Peter O’Brien. Her other TV roles include ‘24: Legacy’, ‘Homeland’ and ‘Rake’.
