With a great legacy and a well-built career, you wouldn’t expect Madonna to have any artistic regrets. But she’s only human after all. The singer-actress has carved her path in Hollywood to be one of the greatest — but it wasn’t without some mistakes and bad judgments.
Surprisingly, the regret doesn’t come from her musical background — which is where she has majorly flourished. It instead comes from a Keanu Reeves film that she passed a role in. Madonna rejected the iconic role of Catwoman which she still regrets. Here’s everything she said about it.
Madonna Opens Up About Rejecting The Role Of Catwoman
Madonna has proven herself constantly. Though she is a fairly established actress along with being a singer today, she lost three iconic film titles to her name that could have changed her career. When appearing on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon‘ in 2021, the host asked her about the two roles she rejected: Catwoman in Tim Burton’s ‘Batman Returns’ and Cristal Connors in Paul Verhoeven’s cult classic ‘Showgirls‘.
Madonna noted that she highly regrets turning down the role in ‘Batman Returns‘, which starred later Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. “I saw them both and I regret that I turned down Catwoman, that was pretty fierce,” Madonna said.
Moreover, the movie starred Micheal as the caped crusader and Danny DeVito as the Penguin.
Madonna Also Rejected A Role In ‘The Matrix’
After rejecting the iconic role in ‘Batman‘, Madonna also rejected a role in ‘The Matrix’, the 1999 science fiction by The Wachowskis, that stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, and Hugo Weaving. Madonna later turned out to be a fan of the film and also labeled it as “One of the best movies ever made”.

“I turned down the role in The Matrix, can you believe that?” she said, expressing her regrets in the interview. “I wanted to kill myself.” She added after confessing: “That’s like one of the best movies ever made. “A teeny-tiny part of me regrets just that one moment in my life.”
However, the singer didn’t specify which role she was offered in ‘The Matrix’, which we could assume to be Trinity, a character played by Carrie-Anne Moss in all three movies.
