‘Pretty Baby’ actress Brooke Shields takes pride in raising two strong daughters — Rowan and Grier Henchy. However, she accepts that parents are only humans and they also learn from their children. Last year, Hulu released the documentary of the actress titled, ‘Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields’. There Brooke revealed that in her early years in the industry, she was sexually assaulted.
While her eldest knew this, Grier was unaware, until she saw the documentary. Grier was shocked at the news and said she could not even complete watching the documentary. Brooke also accepted her mistake in not being open with her daughter. Nonetheless, Grier revealed that she could not make peace with something so grave that happened to her mother. Here’s what she said.
Grier Henchy “Couldn’t Even Get Through” Watching Her Mother’s Documentary
Grier Henchy’s world was turned upside down when she learned that her mother was sexually assaulted while young. Moreover, she got to hear of it first from a documentary. Brooke’s 2023 documentary, ‘Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields’ covered her life as a model, actress, and mother. In it, she disclosed that she was sexually assaulted by a powerful Hollywood producer in her early 20s. She did not reveal the name of the person.
Talking about it, Grier said, “I was learning about things the same time that the world was and I just took it more deeply and personally.” The news clearly upset Grier, as she revealed, “I couldn’t even get through it.”
Meanwhile, Brooke’s eldest daughter knew about her mother’s assault. Brooke accepted her mistake in not telling her daughter herself. She said, “I told her ‘but there’s a happy ending’ and she said, ‘I will never be okay with thinking something bad happened to you.”

Brooke Shields Accepts She “Didn’t Prepare” Grier For The News
Talking to People, Brooke Shields accepted that she did not prepare Grier properly to take the news of her sexual assault. She explained, “It was a miscommunication. I had explained it[documentary] was an exploration of the sexualization of women in my industry but I was naively thinking that because we had such a solid, healthy, fairly normal existence and I’m not completely damaged that she would say, ‘Wow you’ve come through a lot but look where we are today.”
Looking back, Brooke realizes she could have handled it better. “She [Grier] felt helpless, and just as a mom, we make mistakes and sometimes we make assumptions,” she said.
Brooke regrets that her daughter missed the happy ending of the documentary. Nonetheless, ‘The Blue Lagoon’ actress believes she got the happy ending of her story and takes pride in raising her daughters.
