Tom Cruise Wanted His Questions About Tim Burton’s Movie Answered
Known for his influential roles in various movie franchises, Tom Cruise is one of the finest actors in the industry. With calculations and precision, he has managed to build his career bit by bit. While his dedication to his films can’t be doubted, the actor seemingly made the wrong judgment with one of Tim Burton’s films.
He gave up a role in Burton’s film ‘Edward Scissorhands‘, which eventually went to Johnny Depp. Tom asked various weird questions to match up to the character, which turned out to be way too difficult to answer or weren’t part of the narrative.
Screenwriter Caroline Thompson had met with Cruise at the time, and she stated her experience talking to him about the role in a documentary about Tim Burton.
“(Cruise) wanted to know how Edward went to the bathroom, he was asking the kind of questions about the character that can’t be asked for this character! Part of the delicacy of the story was not answering questions like, ‘How does he go to the bathroom? How did he live without eating all those years?’” she recalled.
“You can’t ask questions like that. If you ask questions like that, you’re f***ed. You’ve missed the metaphor, you’ve missed the point,” she said. “Tom Cruise was certainly unwilling to be in the movie without those questions being answered,” Thompson added.

It’s no wonder that Tom Cruise’s questions left him unfazed. He neither regrets nor is affected by the decision he made. He still remains one of the top actors in the world through his work.

Although it would have been interesting to see Tom Cruise in the role of Edward, Johnny Depp’s performance gave a kickstart to his career with Tim Burton collaborating with him for multiple classics thereafter.
