Chris Hemsworth is best known for his role as the mighty Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though Marvel is one of the most fan-favorite franchises with millions of admirers spread across the globe, it is not immune to the occasional criticism. However, the mighty Thor is seemingly taking the feedback to heart, especially the one that came from directors Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola.
Chris Hemsworth did not hold back his thoughts about Marvel’s critics during a recent interview with The Times of London. The ‘Thor’ star was open about his frustration with the criticism directed towards superhero films, calling it “harsh“. Here’s what the actor said.

Chris Hemsworth Says Superhero Films Deserve “A Little More Appreciation” As He Slams Critics
Chris Hemsworth is clearly not very happy with the “harsh” criticism of Marvel films, especially the one that comes from legendary filmmakers like Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola. Asserting that there’s a huge amount of audience that enjoys the Marvel films, the actor expressed his disappointment over the constant criticism of superhero films in the industry.
“It felt harsh, and it bothers me, especially from heroes. It was an eye-roll for me, people bashing the superhero space,” Hemsworth said during the interview. “Those guys had films that didn’t work too — we all have. When they talked about what was wrong with superheroes, I thought, cool, tell that to the billions who watch them. Were they all wrong?” Hemsworth said.
Directors like Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola have pointed out in the past that the hype around superhero films has impacted the cinema culture and they are not worth all the hype. Scorsese’s critique of superhero movies was made during a 2019 interview, when Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’ saw some heavy success
However, arguing against it, Hemsworth said, “Cinema-going did not change because of superheroes, but because of smartphones and social media. Superhero films actually kept people in the cinemas during that transition and now people are coming back. So they deserve a little more appreciation,” he added.
He also bashed the actors who work in Marvel films and when it does not work out, they criticize them. “It’s, like, ‘They’re films that are successful — put me in one. Oh, mine didn’t work? I’ll bash them.'” he said.
“Look, I grew up on a soap opera. And it used to bother me when actors would later talk about the show with guilt or shame. Humility goes a long way. One of the older actors on ‘Home and Away’ said, ‘We don’t get paid to make the good lines sound good, but to make the bad ones work.’ That stuck with me. But hey, it’s all a lesson,” he added.
