Marvel boasts one of the most loved cinematic universes across the globe. The fans are always in awe of everything that the Marvel characters do — right from their superpowers to their virtues. The love for Marvel superheroes and villains goes beyond the characters and reaches the actors who play them.
While love and appreciation are abundant in the lives of these stars, fans might also sometimes wonder how much these superhero actors earn from the back-to-back blockbuster movies they act in. Now we don’t know the exact figure every actor receives as payment. But we are pretty sure it’s humongous — if we’re to believe Tom Hollander from ‘The White Lotus‘ who accidentally received the money meant from Tom Holland.
Tom Hollander Was Elated When He Once Received A Paycheck Meant For Tom Holland
In the tale of two Toms, actor Tom Hollander received a huge amount of money that was meant for Tom Holland. Sharing the amusing yet mortifying incident on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’, ‘The White Lotus‘ star Tom Hollander said his agency once sent him the paycheck that was meant for the Spider-Man, Tom Holland. Because he did not know it was a mistake, Hollander was elated at the prospect of being richer than he expected himself to be.
“It was a terrible moment. I went to see my friend who was doing theater in England for 300 pounds a week, you know, but doing great work, [Anton] Chekhov, and I sat smugly in the audience having just done a BBC show for 30 grand or something, which was, you know, going to get me through the next year or so,” the actor recalled.
“And I was thinking, ‘Well this is marvelous. I’m very prosperous, but my good friend Peter is doing this great play, and I’m going to go afterwards and see him and slightly patronize him and say how wonderful it was,'” he recalled thinking after receiving the 7-figure check.
“I thought I’d check my emails, and I got an email from the agency saying, ‘Payment advice slip: Your first box office bonus for The Avengers,'” the ‘The White Lotus‘ actor said. “I don’t think I’m in The Avengers,'” was his next thought.

“It Was More Money Than I’ve Ever…”: ‘The White Lotus’ Actor Was Astonished After Seeing The Check
Hollander said it was the kind of money he had ever seen or imagined to be in his bank account. Still surprised at the amount, the actor noted that it was Tom Holland’s first box office bonus, and not his full salary — which would obviously be way more than the amount he saw.
“It was an astonishing amount of money,” he added. “And it was not his salary, it was his first box office bonus. Not the whole box office, the first one. And it was more money than I’ve ever — it was a seven-figure sum. …”
He also recalled how Tom Holland was just in his early 20s at the time. This came off as a very humbling experience for the star. “He was 20 or something. So my feeling of smugness that you remember I had in the first-half [of my friend’s play] disappeared very quickly,” he said.
While the mix-up was financial, the actor also touched upon the frequent confusion among fans because of the almost same name he shares with the Spider-Man actor. He said he is often mistaken for Tom Holland, especially when dealing with utility companies.
The recurring dialogue with customer service agents unfolds like a broken record: “‘What’s your name?’ And they go, ‘Tom Holland?’ Because they’ve heard ‘Tom Holland.’ Tom Holland? I go, ‘No, it’s Tom Hollander.‘”
Hollander also explained how fans, particularly children who look forward to meeting Spider-Man, often get disappointed to find he is not Tom Holland. “I’m introduced to somebody’s very, very excited, then confused, then disappointed children,” Hollander explained. “They go, ‘My children are so excited to meet you.’ And I go, ‘Are they, though?’ … They come out and they go, ‘Where is he? Where is he?’ And they go, ‘No, no.'”
While Tom Holland is a globally recognized star, Hollander is also seemingly on his way up the fame ladder. So far, he has played Quentin in season 2 of ‘The White Lotus’ and is set to portray Truman Capote in ‘Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans‘ set to premiere on FX on January 31.
