Known for her quick wit and sharp tongue, Glaser has made a name for herself in the world of stand-up comedy and television. With her relatable humor and candid personality, she’s won over audiences worldwide.

However, there’s one aspect of her career that she finds particularly challenging and even distasteful: writing for roasts. Despite her prowess in delivering biting humor, Glaser admits that the process of creating roast material takes a toll on her. Here’s what she said.

Nikki Glaser recently opened up about the less glamorous side of roast writing during her chat with Terry Gross on his show ‘Fresh Air‘. “I really do have to do kind of a cleanse after I write for a roast,” Glaser shared.

Because my mind is in just such a bad place where I’m just constantly thinking the worst thing about someone, looking at pictures of them thinking, what is something I can think about them that is going to haunt them the rest of their life because I’m going to reveal it to everyone? It’s a disgusting place to write from, but that’s — that’s the job,” she added.

Her comments came shortly after the infamous ‘Roast Of Tom Brady‘, where Glaser didn’t hold back making jokes about Tom Brady‘s financial loss in cryptocurrency and his high-profile divorce from Gisele Bündchen.

While the audience might have laughed, Brady later expressed his discomfort, particularly regarding the impact on his family. On the Pivot Podcast, he said, “didn’t like the way that affected my kids,” and admitted he wouldn’t participate in a roast again.

Despite the popularity of roasts, Glaser is baffled by why anyone would willingly subject themselves to such public scrutiny. “I don’t know why anyone signs up [to be roasted],” she said. “In terms of Tom Brady … because he said yes to it, it’s kind of like, unless you tell me things are off limits, I’m going to go there. I have license. I have your consent.… I can’t believe the places my mind will go to.”

Glaser recounted a painful memory from the 2018 roast of Bruce Willis, where a joke from Cybill Shepherd left her feeling deeply hurt.

Shepherd quipped, “I saw Nikki before the show. I walked into the bathroom and I saw her from behind, and I go, ‘Oh, my God, look at this model!’ And then she turned around, and I go, ‘Oh, she’s a comedian.'” This comment struck a nerve with Glaser, who admitted, “I have so many insecurities about my face and it’s not good enough. And that’s why I’m a comedian, is because I wish I could just be pretty.

For Glaser, the aftermath of a roast isn’t all laughs and high-fives. She confessed, “I’ve cried at, I think two out of the three roast after-parties because of my feelings getting hurt.” In fact, after the roast of Bruce Willis, she took drastic measures to address her insecurities. “I got a ton of stuff injected in my face and laser stuff done to fix what Cybill saw.

The Roast of Tom Brady‘ is currently available on Netflix.
