Elon Musk taking over Twitter and rebranding it as ‘X’ wasn’t on our list this year, but it made its way into being one of the most talked about (read: controversial) topics of the year. While many applauded this move, many also spoke about criticizing Musk, and his redesign of Twitter which made it less user-friendly.
Among all the celebrities who spoke up on Musk’s new version of Twitter, here’s what Selena Gomez had to say:
Elon Musk’s Takeover Of Twitter (Now X)
The tech mogul initiated the acquisition of Twitter Inc. on April 14, 2022. By January 2022, he had already started buying shares of the holder, which made him their largest shareholder with a 9.1 percent ownership stake. He was even invited to be on Twitter’s board of directors, which he declined. It turns out Elon had bigger plans.
Later on, he bought the company for an epic deal of $44 billion. After the purchase, he went on to make new changes to the platform, many of which didn’t really get validation from the users. The iconic blue and white sign was replaced by a boring letter x. He also fired a majority of Twitter employees, while many resigned due to Musk’s exploitation of his workers.

Selena Gomez Slams Elon Musk
Selena Gomez is known for speaking out and calling out people who are in the wrong. She has, in the past, called out Mark Zuckerberg regarding Facebook’s spread of disinformation and hate speech.
Mark Zuckerberg, @sherylsandberg, @sundarpichai, @SusanWojcicki, @jack – you have the ability to fix this. Why aren’t you?

In an interview for Vanity Fair, Gomez was asked about her feelings about Elon Musk acquiring Twitter, and her response wasn’t exactly supportive.
Selena said, “It’s dangerous. I don’t think I need to say anything because he’s getting the feedback that I feel. I don’t care about him but about the direction of Twitter. It’s not my favorite app, for sure.” She further continued, “I don’t know if it was [about feeling] cool that you own something. I just find it irresponsible and unsafe.”
