Katy Perry was one of the few artists who performed at King Charles III’s coronation. Perry and the royals have graced many occasions together in the past, including a mental health campaign with Prince William and Prince Harry. However, she was also a catalyst for another project related to the royal family.
In 2021, Gary Janetti created a show titled ‘The Prince’ on HBO Max. The show focuses on the lives of the royals from the perspective of Prince George, son of Kate Middleton, and Prince William. However, it was a satirical representation of the family, and the fictional Prince George put the makers in hot water. Katy Perry’s fiancé, Orlando Bloom, was also part of the project, and he voiced the character of Prince Harry. Though he was reluctant earlier, the pop star convinced him to do the role.
Katy Perry Felt That ‘The Prince’ Was Genius After Watching A Clip
In 2021, HBO Max premiered a satirical show about the royal family titled ‘The Prince.’ It featured royal family members with a bratty, diabolical, and entitled child, inspired by Prince George, as the main protagonist. It starred Sophie Turner, Orlando Bloom, Condola Rashad, Gary Janetti, and others. The series created a lot of controversy over the portrayal of Prince George.
Orlando Bloom was skeptical about doing the series, but thanks to his fiancé, Katy Perry, he did it. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2020, he said, “Initially, I was like, ‘Hmm, how do I feel about this?’ because I’m a British boy who’s very proud of my roots. I understand how the royal family is loved by some and loathed by others, and I’ve always understood it as part of my heritage and background. I’m not someone who wants to poke fun at anyone normally, but this was so clever, witty, and affectionately done.”
Bloom admitted that the ‘Roar’ artist convinced him. He added, “Actually, Katy saw one bit of it and was like, ‘You’ve got to do this. This is genius.’ And the animation is done by some of the guys who did Family Guy, so it’s going to be very amusing. And who doesn’t love the royal family?”

The Actor Defended The Series
‘The Prince’ received a lot of flak for portraying a child as a bully. Dr. Shola Mos-Shogbamimu, on Good Morning Britain, said we are sending wrong message by portraying children as bullies. Royal commentator Russell Myers commented that the show crossed the line.
During the same interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Orlando Bloom defended the series, saying, “It’s not malicious or intended to be. He’s really got his finger on the pulse, Gary. He’s so smart and so zeitgeisty. I rolled the dice on it, but I’m going to have to mention it to Prince Harry when I next see him, because I’m not going to be able to not. Oddly, I’m sure I’m going to see him at some point, just because of the nature of the universe, it always throws people together.”
