Lisa Marie Presley Kept Son Benjamin Keough’s Body On Dry Ice For 2 Months After His Death

Lisa Marie Presley appears to grieve the loss of her loved ones more intensely than others. Her recently released memoir revealed many aspects of her personal life, including her struggles with the death of her father Elvis Presley, and son Benjamin Keough.

But what many would find rather eerie is how she mourned her son’s death for two months by keeping his body on dry ice. Her daughter Riley Keough shared that her mother wanted to be with him as long as it took her to be at peace with his death, and then have the final goodbye.

In her memoir ‘From Here To The Great Unknown‘, Lisa Marie wrote that after her son Benjamin died by suicide at the age of 27 in 2020, she kept his body on dry ice in a separate bedroom in their home in LA. “There is no law in the state of California that you have to bury someone immediately,” Lisa Marie wrote.

Benjamin’s sister, Riley Keough, wrote in the same memoir that it was really important for their mother to have “ample time to say goodbye to him, the same way she’d done with her dad (Elvis Presley)“.

A dead body in your house for more than a month sounds creepy but it helped Lisa Marie to grieve. She kept his body at 55 degrees temperature in the room. Moreover, Lisa was uncertain about where to bury him: Hawaii or Graceland.

That was part of why it took so long,” Lisa wrote. “I got so used to him, caring for him and keeping him there. I think it would scare the living f—ing piss out of anybody else to have their son there like that. But not me.”

Lisa Marie Presley just wanted to parent her son for a while after his death and perhaps delay the goodbye a bit longer so that she could be okay with laying him to rest. At one point, Riley stated in the memoir that she and her mother decided to get tattoos in Benjamin’s honor.

Benjamin had Riley’s name tattooed on his collarbone and Lisa’s tattooed on his hand, so they decided to get his name on the same body parts. Moreover, to get the perfect tattoos, Lisa decided to invite the tattoo artist to their home where Benjamin’s body was laid to rest so that he could see close up to his tattoos.

Soon after they got their tattoos, Riley wrote, “We all got this vibe from my brother that he didn’t want his body in this house anymore. ‘Guys,’ he seemed to be saying, ‘This is getting weird.’ Even my mom said that she could feel him talking to her, saying, ‘This is insane, Mom, what are you doing? What the f—!'”

The family eventually had a funeral service in Malibu and they buried him in Graceland, with his grandfather Elvis and a pair of yellow Nikes that he adored.
