Marvel has been working on its new phase with full force, adding new superheroes and characters to the lore. With the introduction of new storylines, they are also being inclusive by adding queer characters to the multiverse. Recently released ‘Agatha All Along’ deals with two homosexual witches who share a romantic past with each other, and fans can’t keep calm.
Agatha Harkness and Rio Vidal had some intense chemistry in the recent episodes of the series. They both enjoyed shooting the scenes and Kathryn Hahn, who plays the lead character Agatha Harkness, said it’s completely natural for her character to develop a queer relationship. Here’s everything she said about homosexuality and her character.
Kathryn Hahn Opens Up About Her Distinctive Queer Character In ‘Agatha All Along’
In a recent interview with Moviepilot, Kathryn Hahn talked about the queerness of her character in episode 4 of the series. The episode finally clarified the romantic relationship between Rio and Agatha — something fans had been pondering over for a while now.
Kathryn was asked a question about chemistry and the sexual tension between both witches and why was it important to portray the character of Agatha as queer. Responding to this, Kathryn replied, “Agatha loves everyone – and probably does. Gender doesn’t matter. Love is love. Sex is sex. I don’t think you can pigeonhole Agatha“.
Further, Kathryn explained that it was natural for her character to develop as a queer character in the universe as she loves everyone. She continued, “Honestly, it’s the natural progression. Of course, she’s [queer]. Of course she loves everyone. She’s attracted to who she’s attracted to. And of course she would never define herself as one or the other. But I would say that about her relationship with Rio too.“
The actress also added, “For me, it was more about the story between the two of them. This very complicated, obviously strained friendship between these two extraordinary women who both think they’re the greatest”.
Kathryn Hahn And Aubrey Plaza Shared Great Chemistry, Even Before Talking
Kathryn Hahn further shared that she and Aubrey never talked to each other before filming the scenes together. They both have previously worked in ‘Parks and Rec‘ but never crossed paths as they both had different storylines. “So that was the first real opportunity to act together and it was really fun”, said Kathryn.

The actress continued, “We didn’t even talk [about their attraction] and tried to stay away from each other. Which is weird for us because we’re always joking around together. But here we really retreated into our own corners until the scene started. We didn’t need to talk to each other. The chemistry was just there, which was really exciting as an actress. [Aubrey] is amazing”.
“I guess so. I love the word “iconic” and I love the word “queer.” It’s all fantastic. And I’m convinced that this show can inspire a lot of viewers and be there for those who may have felt forgotten,” Kathryn added.
The refreshing concept of adding queer characters in the MCU is going to set the foundation for future potential queer characters as well. This shall also give clear feedback to the makers from the audience on what they expect from the franchise.
