One thing ‘Ocean’s 11‘ and ‘The Instigators’ have in common is the duo of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who is a co-producer, hence the comparison between both movies is rampant. They are both heist movies as well.
‘Ocean’s 11′ and ‘The Instigators‘ are rooted in heist but ‘The Instigators‘ leans more toward the comedy genre. Considering the comparison between the movies, Damon talked about the vision of the upcoming movie and how it is different from his previous heist drama.

Matt Damon And Ben Affleck Duo Is Back
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Matt Damon talked about the apt description of the movie. “If the Ocean’s thieves were possibly the worst criminals ever. I think that’s a pretty good description of it,” he said.
Damon is going to play the role of a desperate father in ‘The Instigators‘ who reluctantly teams up with ex-con Cobby to rob a corrupt politician. Everything goes wrong as the duo finds themselves in problems which include being chased by police and crime bosses. The film is filled with thrill and comedy.
The actor further continued about his previous heist film ‘Ocean’s 11‘. He said, “We didn’t talk about Ocean’s [on set] that much just because, to your point, those movies are about the exact perfect team, everyone with their specialty, and it all comes off beautifully in the end. And these guys are the opposite.”
He added, “There’s no world in which Danny Ocean would let these two knuckleheads into his crew. And that’s kind of the fun of it — it’s two more regular people in the middle of a heist.”

Director Dough Liman Loves The Duo Of Matt Damon And Ben Affleck
Director Dough Liman previously shared that it’s the dynamic duo that made him work with them. Plus he wanted to work with Matt Damon. “I just thought there was the opportunity to do something really special here,” the director said.
He added, “From the beginning, I saw it was going to be a different kind of heist film. It was kind of like The Bad News Bears of heist films, that these are going to be two inept thieves trying to rob the corrupt mayor of Boston, and that we could do a really fun comedy that’s smart.”
Moreover, the director also shared that it’s fun to do something different than the usual lane, and actors like Matt Damon help with it. He praised Matt for his versatility, and humor and also called him a “gigantic movie star”.
‘The Instigators‘ will debut in select theatres on 2 August before streaming globally on Apple TV+ on August 9.
