Meghan Markle is back making headlines with her dazzling new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, and she sure knows how to hone it to perfection. The Duchess of Sussex has added a personal touch to the products of her brand that may have escaped the notice of many. Launched on March 14, the brand’s elegant logo has text in Meghan’s own handwriting.
The logo of ‘American Riviera Orchard’ showcases Meghan’s calligraphy with a graceful and creative blend of an “A” and “O”. The letters are further adorned by intricate flourishes, alongside the word “Montecito,” an ode to the couple’s Santa Barbara neighborhood.
This personalized touch is a genius decision as it has highly enhanced her brand’s value, and also worked as a subtle nod to her previous work as a calligrapher. Before she became a popular name in Hollywood, Meghan taught calligraphy, gift-wrapping, and book-binding at the Paper Source store in Beverly Hills from 2004 to 2005.
The CEO of Paper Source, Winnie Park recalled Meghan’s part-time job and how good at it she was. “She taught calligraphy and hosted a group of customers and instructed them during a two-hour class on how to do calligraphy,” Park said. However, Meghan’s calligraphy skills were not just limited to teaching. She was also actively dealing with celebrity clients including Robin Thicke and Paula Patton, for whom she wrote wedding invitations in 2005.
Meghan Markle’s New Brand Name And The Calligraphy In Its Logo Hold Special Significance
Meghan Markle has had an affinity for handwritten notes for the longest time, as she has also mentioned the same on her now-defunct lifestyle blog, ‘The Tig’. Her love for calligraphy was also amply highlighted after her royal wedding to Prince Harry, when her signature on guest books and personal thank-you notes was a valued addition. Even Meghan and Harry’s joint cipher, an intertwined “H” and “M”, appears to be influenced by Meghan’s calligraphy skills.
The choice of brand name ‘American Riviera‘ is symbolic and reflects Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s connection to Santa Barbara, known for its temperate climate, lush landscapes, and vibrant food and wine culture for over a century. ‘American Riviera Orchard’ offers a diverse range of products, with trademark applications filed for cosmetics, home décor, stationery, linens, furniture, kitchen appliances, beach accessories, yoga equipment, gardening gear, and pet accessories.
According to a source, the brand is reflective of Meghan’s passions for family, cooking, entertaining, and home décor. “Meghan finds the name American Riviera Orchard perfect. She is excited about her latest, personal venture. This is something she’s been wanting to do for a while. She is excited to share her style and things that she loves,” the the insider was quoted as saying by PEOPLE.
