Hollywood actor Tom Cruise is one of the most popular stars in the world. With several films under his belt minting billions, it’s obvious to see some people getting irked by it.
Actor Mickey Rourke recently took a dig at the ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ star during a television interview, calling him ‘irrelevant.’
Mickey Calls Tom Cruise ‘Irrelevant’
Rourke, who has appeared in films like ‘The Wrestler,’ ‘Iron Man 2,’ and ‘Man on Fire,’ appeared in the latest episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored where he asked how it felt to see Cruise gross $1 billion at the box office with Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to 1986’s ‘Top Gun’.
According to news.com.au, the 69-year-old actor responded by saying, “That doesn’t mean sh*t to me.” He elaborated, “The guy’s been doing the same effing part for 35 years. I got no respect for that.”
Rourke explained that he cares about the performance of an actor, not the money. “I care about when I watch Al Pacino work and Chris Walken and De Niro’s early work and Richard Harris’s work and Ray Winstone’s work.” He continued, “That’s the kind of actor I want to be like. Monty Clift and Brando back in the day. A lot of guys that just tried to stretch as actors.”
When Morgan asked him if he doesn’t think Tom Cruise is a good actor, Rourke responded: “I think he’s irrelevant, in my world.”
Cruise Received A Huge Paycheck For Top Gun: Maverick
A sequel to Cruise’s 1986 film, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was released 36 years after the original, facing multiple date changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film received an overwhelmingly positive response and became the biggest film of Cruise’s career, as well as the biggest film of this year so far.
Earlier it was reported that Cruise, who is one of the world’s highest-paid actors, received $12.5 million upfront. He also takes a ten percent cut from a film’s total dollar gross. The reports suggest that Cruise earned around $60 million from the film.
While all this might seem a bit much, but its a norm for the action star, who despite being in his 60s, performs his own stunts. The Mission Impossible films have also earned him millions of dollars.
The success of most of his films can be attributed to the real stunts, including ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ where the makers decided to shoot all the dogfights for real.
