Natalie Portman, the versatile actress known for her stellar roles in ‘Black Swan‘ and the ‘Thor‘ series, has recently spilled the beans on what she’d be doing if Hollywood hadn’t come knocking. Spoiler alert: it’s not what you’d expect!
Portman, at the premiere of her upcoming Apple TV+ series ‘Lady in the Lake,’ revealed her surprising backup plan. “I think I’d be like Jane Goodall, living with animals in the wild,” she confessed, channeling her inner zoologist and admiration for the famed chimpanzee expert.

Yes, you read that right. Portman’s reflection on her potential career as a zoologist was sparked by her latest project, ‘Lady in the Lake.’ The series, set in the 1960s, features Portman as Maddie, a housewife-turned-reporter on a mission to crack an unsolved murder case. “She’s so in a tunnel of her own needs that it’s like she’s blind to everything else around her,” Portman said ET about her character. “It was wild to inhabit her intensity.”
Portman’s co-star, Moses Ingram, plays Cleo Johnson, a relentless mother striving to uplift Black communities in Baltimore. The dynamic between these two powerful female characters is what hooked Portman. “It had two such incredible female roles, both women looking for their freedom in this incredible world of the 1960s in Baltimore, beautifully realized by all of our designers,” she gushed. “Alma Har’el, the series creator, is just someone I admire so much. Her heart and her talent exceeded any expectations I had of her.“

With ‘Lady in the Lake,’ Portman flexes her muscles both as an executive producer and an actress. This project proves she’s not just another Hollywood starlet; she’s a powerhouse, bringing complex female-driven stories to life. “There’s a unique satisfaction in diving deep into such multifaceted roles and stories,” Portman noted.
