Emma Roberts and Julia Roberts are the niece-aunt duo that managed to make it big in Hollywood. While nepotism is looked down upon by the industry, there are some exceptions that go beyond making it big because of family advantage.
Though her aunt may have paved the way for her to be in Hollywood, Emma Roberts has proven to be a commendable actress. She was nine when she started her career in acting., and faced heavy allegations of nepotism. Emma had then decided she wanted to carve her path as she was intimidated by the fame of her aunt Julia Roberts. Here’s what she said.
Emma Roberts Talks About Harsh Nepotism She Faced In The Industry
In a chat with Table For Two, Emma Roberts talked about her acting career and things she faced as a fresher in the acting industry. Emma said she was inspired to act by her aunt Julia Roberts and it was because of her that she decided to pursue acting as her career.
Though she made a significant impact in the industry through her acting skills, Emma faced heavy accusations of nepotism when she initially appeared on screen. Emma revealed that she would spend a lot of time with her aunt Julia on her sets during shoots.
Eventually it got to a point where she was scared of her aunt’s fame. “I think I saw very up close what [fame] really looks like with my aunt Julia,” she said.
“There is nothing scarier to me than being so famous that you are never left alone, but also you’re not getting good jobs,” Emma said. She further talked about acting career being fun and great but scary for the same reason. “It’s obviously, you know, it’s fun and it’s great, but there is a part of it that’s really scary.”

Emma Also Shared A Scary Downside To Fame
Because of the harsh nepotism she faced in the industry, Emma said she decided to carve her own path. “I’ve always wanted to kind of carve my path of not just like straight ahead be a big movie star, but like, you know, do stuff that’s creatively fulfilling,” she said.
The actress further added that fame has never been her goal. “Because fame at a certain level is kind of scary. And I remember as a kid, even in my later teens, I was like, I never want my fame to outweigh my work. Because there’s nothing scarier to me than being so famous that you’re never left alone,” the ‘American Horror Story‘ actress explained.
“So I was very conscious of just not wanting to be in it for the fame. And like I said, when you’ve seen fame like that up close and you see what that does to people [and] to their family […] it’s scary sometimes,” Emma added.
