Olivia Munn is opening up on her new normal after she underwent treatment for breast cancer recently. The actress had to suffer through medically induced menopause, and continuous treatments. A mother of a 2 year old son, who she gave birth to shortly before being diagnosed, talked about how life has been after the major treatment. She asserted that she is “grateful” to have been given the chance to fight.
“You realise cancer doesn’t care who you are; it doesn’t care if you have a baby or if you don’t have time. It comes at you, and you have no choice but to face it head-on,” she told People. She also added that though she really tried to be prepared, “nothing could prepare me for what I would feel like, what it would look like and how I would handle it emotionally.” The actress said fighting cancer was tougher than she expected.
She also went into detail about the reconstructive surgery, and how she wanted to go smaller instead of bigger. Her treatment has not included chemotherapy or radiation, but in November, she began hormone suppression medication to reduce future risk, which has resulted in medically induced menopause. Symptoms ensued, as she said, “I’m constantly thinking it’s hot, my hair is thinning, and I’m tired a lot.”

Olivia Munn’s Cancer Journey
The ‘Magic Mike‘ actress was struck down with bilateral breast cancer after tests confirmed a diagnosis of luminal B in both breasts. She then underwent a double mastectomy, a nipple delay operation, and a lymph node dissection — all within 30 days.
A following ultrasound revealed two more tumors in her right breast, which were biopsied and proven to be stage 1 invasive carcinoma. A further evaluation of Munn’s original MRI resulted in a biopsy, which revealed cancer in the left breast as well.
Through all of this, as she says, her husband, John Mulaney, has been her biggest support. “It would’ve felt like climbing an iceberg without him,” says Munn. “I don’t think he had a moment to himself, between being an incredibly hands-on father and going to and from the hospital—taking Malcolm to the park, putting him to nap, driving to Cedars-Sinai, hanging out with me, going home, putting Malcolm to bed, coming back to me. And he did it all happily.”
As of now, the actress is settling into her new normal routine and also enjoying motherhood with baby Malcolm.
