The Grammys this year, scheduled for Sunday, are going to be a spectacular event. But it will also come with some drama around the feuds and competitions between the competitor artists. One of the celebrity pairs that all eyes will be on are Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo, who are set to compete in the Record, Album, and Song of the Year categories.
The burning question about the showdown between these two extends beyond the award ceremonies. The two have been a part of an infamous beef although they were once on fairly good terms. Here’s what went wrong between the two stars and what can be expected during their Grammy’s appearance.
Olivia Rodrigo Had Once Claimed She Is “The Biggest Swiftie In The World”
The world is waiting for the Sunday Grammy’s event, with the cutthroat nominations creating anticipation about the winners. Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo are expected to be seated close together during the star-studded award ceremony. But given their reported beef, it is unlikely that the two would remain cordial during the ceremony.
An insider told Page Six that although both mega-stars will secure front-row seats, they might not be placed too close together during the ceremony at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday. “They’re both huge stars, so they’ll both be in the front row — but I can’t see them being too close together,” the insider said.
Rodrigo and Taylor were on great terms initially, when Rodrigo’s debut album ‘Sour‘ was released. Rodrigo was just a former child star who rose to fame on the Disney+ show ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series‘. As she gained limelight, she had declared herself to be the “biggest Swiftie in the whole world.”
After the release of Rodrigo’s debut single ‘Driver’s License‘ in 2021, her “entire life just, like, shifted in an instant” as she herself told the New York Times. The song broke Spotify records in a week and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was then that Rodrigo first met her hero, Swift at the BRIT Awards soon after.
The pair also posed for a photo at the time. “I say that’s my baby and I’m proud,” Swift posted on social media with Rodrigo. But by May 2021, things got bitter between the two.

What Went Wrong Between Taylor Swift And Olivia Rodrigo?
The tension between the two stars gained traction when Rodrigo had to credit Swift and pay royalties for her song ‘Deja Vu’ in May 2021. Rodrigo’s debut album ‘Sour‘ had initially credited Swift and her frequent collaborator, Jack Antonoff, for an interpolation of the song ‘New Year’s Day‘.
Swift’s legal team had reportedly intervened after the release of the song ‘Deja Vu‘, and Swift was later given partial credit. Swift’s name was consequently added to the credits for ‘Deja Vu‘ and ‘1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back’ along with her
The financial implications were substantial, with Swift, Jack Antonoff, and Annie Clark (St. Vincent) sharing a 50% stake in the songs.
The beef between the two visibly grew after that. Fans even speculated that Rodrigo’s song ‘Vampire‘ is directed at Swift. Though Rodrigo had claimed that she has “no beef” with anyone and Taylor also reiterated her comments, their behind-the-scenes actions suggest otherwise.
While Swift has a reputation for promoting young artists, Rodrigo’s absence from Swift’s Eras tour lineup raised eyebrows amid the already speculated feud between them. “Olivia could have been on stage during the Eras tour — she could have been part of Taylor’s inner circle — but I don’t think she showed enough respect,” a source familiar with Swift’s music dealings said.
The Grammy showdown on Sunday would be a matter of curiosity for many as it would be a chance for public reconciliation between the two. The stars will collide head-on in terms of competition with Rodrigo having three Grammys in her name despite her short career, and Taylor being a megastar with about 12 Grammys under her name.
