For three decades, the internet has clung to a singular, unshakeable belief: Paul Rudd does not age. From his debut as the charmingly oblivious Josh in ‘Clueless‘ (1995) to his recent turn as Ant-Man‘, the actor has become the patron saint of agelessness.

A resurfaced 1991 Nintendo commercial last year only fueled the fire and showed a young 22-year-old Paul Rudd looking almost the same as he does today.

However, at 57, Rudd is officially pushing back against the vampire allegations. In a recent interview, the actor has offered a public service announcement to his amazed followers that the clock is ticking and that he is exhausted. “I’m a withering 80-year-old man on the inside,” Rudd joked in a recent press circuit, “and I’m catching up on the outside, too.

It is a line he has honed over the years. At Chicago’s C2E2 convention back in 2019, when asked the secret to his youthful appearance, he famously pointed to his chest and deadpanned, “In here, pure darkness—and a little moisturizer”. Appearing on The Graham Norton Show in 2023, he reiterated the sentiment simply: “I feel awful on the inside”.

While the internet speculates about Botox or “baby blood” (a quip from his Avengers co-star Chris Evans), Rudd insists his regimen is mundane, and his genes are finally giving out.

During a candid appearance on the Therapuss podcast on May 27, host Jake Shane asked the ‘Ant-Man‘ star point-blank if he uses Botox. Rudd’s response was immediate and animated. “No,” he said firmly, before proceeding to scrunch his face, move his eyebrows up and down, and point to the resulting natural creases. “Look at my face”.

Paul Rudd’s Sleep and Skincare Routine

So, what is the real secret if not needles or dark magic? Boring biology. “People ask me, ‘Can you send me your meal plan? How many times a week do you work out?’” Rudd told Men’s Health in 2023. He revealed that his top priority is neither a fancy cream nor a costly serum, but rather the one thing busy adults never get enough of, and that is sleep. “The most important part of training is sleep,” he said. “Sleep first, then diet. Then weights. Then cardio.”

Dermatologists largely agree with the star. While a cosmetic surgeon recently told Bored Panda that maintaining such smooth skin in one’s late 50s without some aesthetic intervention is uncommon, experts universally credit Rudd’s specific habits. His long-standing use of sunscreen (he told InStyle he is a “big believer” in it to avoid cancer, not just wrinkles) and a consistent routine have likely paid massive dividends.

Rudd acknowledges the “ick” factor of discussing his own appearance. He has been named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” (2021) and regularly fields questions that make him visibly uncomfortable. But as he approaches his 60s, he wants to set the record straight. “You’re kind for saying that, but I really do [age],” he told the Therapuss host.

For fans hoping to bottle whatever Rudd is drinking, the formula isn’t youth serum; it is a 401k retirement plan for the skin. “Routine is a human need,” he told Men’s Health. “It’s grounding in a really positive and healthy way”. And according to Rudd, that grounding routine currently resides inside the body of a man who feels like he is eighty. “In here,” he said, tapping his chest, “pure darkness”.
