Harry Styles is a heartthrob not just in the United States or the UK, but across the globe. The former One Direction member has a highly successful career in music. His self-titled solo album became one of the world’s top-ten best-selling albums of the year 2017. Styles has also forayed into acting with the war film ‘Dunkirk.’
The 28-year-old artist will next be seen in the psychological thriller ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ and the period romantic drama ‘My Policeman.’ In the latter, Styles plays a homosexual police officer. The singer-actor has now responded to the criticism of queerbaiting in the film in an interview.
Harry Styles Addresses The Queerbaiting Issue Of ‘My Policeman’
Harry Styles remains in the news for his songs, albums, photoshoots, and or his personal life. The actor has now also forayed into acting and will feature in the upcoming period romantic flick ‘My Policeman.’
In an interview with Rolling Stone, the singer talked about playing a gay role set in the 1950s when it was illegal to be in a same-sex relationship in the United Kingdom.
“It’s obviously pretty unfathomable now to think, ‘Oh, you couldn’t be gay. That was illegal,’ ” he said. “I think everyone, including myself, has your own journey with figuring out sexuality and getting more comfortable with it.” He continued, “It’s not like ‘This is a gay story about these guys being gay.’ It’s about love and about wasted time to me.”
The “Sign of the Times” singer also addressed allegations of queerbating, or subtlety showing himself as an LGBTQ member without actually being one.
He said, “Sometimes people say, ‘You’ve only publicly been with women,’ and I don’t think I’ve publicly been with anyone. If someone takes a picture of you with someone, it doesn’t mean you’re choosing to have a public relationship or something.”
Florence Pugh Lashes Out At Styles Fans
The pop star enjoys a massive fan following that is quite rabid also occasionally. They have often targeted Olivia Wilde whom he is dating right now.
He will be next seen sharing the screen with Florence Pugh for Wilde’s ‘Don’t Worry Darling‘. Pugh has been trolled online for her steamy scenes with Styles in the film.
She responded, “When it’s reduced to your sex scenes, or to watch the most famous man in the world go down on someone, it’s not why we do it. It’s not why I’m in this industry. Obviously, the nature of hiring the most famous pop star in the world, you’re going to have conversations like that.”
Pugh continued, “That’s just not what I’m going to be discussing because [the film is] bigger and better than that. And the people who made it are bigger and better than that.”
