Although coverage of the Russia-Ukraine war has decreased, that does not mean that the war is over. The war is very much still going on and neither party is backing down. The war has also dragged in Elon Musk and his company Starlink into it.
So what happened and how did Elon Musk become a part of it? The rest of the world governments including the USA are doing nothing to bring the war to an end, and matters are getting more complicated. So let’s take a look!

How Did Elon Musk Get Dragged Into The Russia-Ukraine War?
Elon Musk revealed that he stopped a potential attack on the Russian navy by not complying with the Ukrainian government’s request. Right after Russia took over Kyiv, Elon Musk’s Satellite internet service Starlink was deployed there.
Musk posted on X, “There was an emergency request from government authorities to activate Starlink all the way to Sevastopol. The obvious intent being to sink most of the Russian fleet at anchor.” The city of Sevastopol is the base of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet on the Crimean peninsula.
Musk continued, “The obvious intent being to sink most of the Russian fleet at anchor. If I had agreed to their request, then SpaceX would be explicitly complicit in a major act of war and conflict escalation.”

What Was The Aftermath Of Elon Musk’s Decision?
As Elon Musk chose not to comply, he stopped a potential nuclear war. Walter Isaacson, who has been working on Musk’s autobiography, revealed more about the situation. Isaacson wrote, “The Ukrainian military was attempting a sneak attack on the Russian naval fleet based at Sevastopol in Crimea by sending six small drone submarines packed with explosives, and it was using Starlink to guide them to the target.”
According to Walter Isaacson, Musk had previously spoken to the Russian ambassador to the United States who had informed him that “a Ukrainian attack on Crimea would lead to a nuclear response“.
Issacson further writes, “Musk secretly told his engineers to turn off coverage within 100 kilometers of the Crimean coast.” He added, “As a result, when the Ukrainian drone subs got near the Russian fleet in Sevastopol, they lost connectivity and washed ashore harmlessly“. Musk clarified to Isaacson’s post, “The Starlink regions in question were not activated. SpaceX did not deactivate anything.”
