The former Miss World was already an established name in her country when she made her debut in Hollywood with ABC’s television series ‘Quantico‘, becoming the first South Asian to headline an American show.
Recently, the 40-year-old opened up about the time she had a botched plastic surgery which resulted in depression. It also threatened her career in Bollywood which was at a nascent stage. So let us find out the details of what the ‘Baywatch‘ actress said about those dark times in her life.

Priyanka Chopra Talks About A Failed Plastic Surgery
In her recent appearance on ‘The Howard Stern Show’, Priyanka Chopra talked about how a nose job gone awry had an impact on her mental health. “It was a dark phase,” she said. A doctor had advised her to get a polyp in her nasal cavity removed.
But after the procedure was done, her face looked “completely different” and it resulted in a “deep, deep depression.” The botched rhinoplasty also threatened her career in Bollywood at that time.
The ‘Citadel‘ star thought her career was “over before it started.” But her late father, who was also a doctor, encouraged her to get corrective surgery. “I was terrified of that, but he was like, ‘I will be in the room with you,’” she said. “He held my hands through it and helped me build back my confidence.”
After that, a director named Anil Sharma also offered her a brief role in his film. “He, while the tide was against me, said, ‘It will be a small part but give it your all.’ And I did,’” she recalls.

She Also Wrote About It In Her Memoir
In 2021, Chopra wrote a memoir titled ‘Unfinished‘ where she talks in detail about how the surgery left her feeling “devastated and hopeless.” She said when she looked into a mirror “a stranger looked back at me, and I didn’t think my sense of self or my self-esteem would ever recover from the blow.”
Years later, Chopra has changed her perspective on that matter. “Now when I look in the mirror, I am no longer surprised; I’ve made peace with this slightly different me,” she wrote.
She says that while she feels insecure about her body sometimes, she is content with it. Earlier, Chopra stated how the industry expects everyone to look a certain way and have a certain body type.
