Where Does Robert Downey Jr. Live?
One would be shocked to know that the famous Hollywood star resides in a windmill house and not in any huge mansion. Robert’s lifestyle is absolutely different and opposite to what is actually portrayed in movies. In real life, Robert always prefers to be a simple man. Whenever at home, he prefers to devote his major time to his family.
Being a complete family man, it is not surprising that Robert has also invested some wealth of his to build a good house for his wife and kids. Let us know the details.
Windmill House
One of the most unique properties that Robert Downey Jr. owns is his Windmill house. He and his wife Susan Downey spent $11.9 million to purchase the Edward DeRose Windmill Cottage in East Hampton. The actor and his wife collaborated with Architectural Digest to showcase their one-of-a-kind summer home. Built in 1885, the mansion features four acres of grounds.
According to Downey, the estate’s 19th-century proprietors specifically chose its current location, so that they could see the church spire. The couple decided to purchase the home because they were interested in owning a unique piece of real estate. They didn’t want anything dull, and they were looking for some excitement.
The home has been on and off the market for a long time, with numerous price reductions. The Downeys paid $11.9 million for the estate in 2015, but in 2014 it was sold for $13.5 million. Both the main house and the guesthouse combine to make up around 8,500 square feet of the estate’s total living space. Instead of a real windmill, the property features a replica of the one that can be seen in East Hampton.

Malibu House
Apart from owning a Windmill House, Robert Downey also owns a house in Malibu which is unique as well, but in terms of facilities. By Robert’s standards, the three-bedroom, three-bathroom midcentury modern home is fairly small. Nonetheless, it has an excellent view of Malibu Lagoon and a backyard with everything a celebrity could want. The house is an actual definition of luxury.
It has a swimming pool, a hot tub, a fire pit, a seating area, and a miniature golf area. Rooms in the 3,384-square-foot property are very spacious and it all sits on a sunlit cliff. The house also provides breathtaking views of the lake below. The living room’s retractable glass walls let in plenty of natural light and create a seamless transition to the terrace outside. Venice Beach House
Robert Downey Jr. also has a beach house. Yes, you read that right! Despite being the owner of several houses, he has a separate beach property in Venice. RDJ bought it in 2009, but not for what you think. Downey spent $5.6 million to turn the mansion into Team Downey’s headquarters. So, it’s there for sheerly commercial purposes.
Robert and Susan Downey created Team Downey in 2010. The company creates films, TV, and digital media. Though the Downeys reportedly live here at times, it’s registered as a business, not a home. The 3,397-square-foot property is flanked by business buildings. The 5-bedroom, 5-bathroom house-turned-business was built in 2007. A large swimming pool, an area for barbecuing, and fire pits are all located on the property outside of the house.
