As a highly trained and super strategic spy, Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury is a trusted and acknowledged tactician both on and off the battlefield. Through various Marvel movies, he has helped the Avengers during their tough times although his long tenure in the Marvel films was risky.
Samuel signed nine movie contracts with the MCU as he was uncertain whether he would be alive till he completed all of them. But the filmmakers were quick enough to finish all the movies within two years. Here’s what the actor has said about it.
Samuel L. Jackson Was Amazed To See How Marvel Rushed Through The Nine Movies Deal
Samuel L Jackson while talking to GQ Magazine admitted that he was shocked to see how the MCU team raced through the nine-picture deal. He agreed to the offer to play Nicky Fury as a cameo in 2008’s ‘Iron Man’, which was also his first movie as Nick.
Later, he starred in a dozen other movies including ‘Avengers‘ films and standalone tentpoles like ‘Iron Man’ and ‘The Marvels’.

“I knew I had a nine-picture deal,” Jackson said. “[Marvel Studios president] Kevin [Feige] said that: ‘We’re going to offer you a nine-picture deal.’ How long do you have to stay alive to make nine movies? It’s not the quickest process in the world. I didn’t know they were going to make nine movies in like two and a half years. That’s kind of crazy! Oh shit, I’m using up my contracts. It worked out.”
Samuel L Jackson Never Lost Interest In His Nick Fury Role
Samuel L Jackson previously told Los Angeles Times that he’s never lost interest in the role of Nick Fury and that he’d rather make a billion-dollar grossing film than chase Oscar titles or Oscar-baiting roles.
“As jaded as I wanted to be about it, you know thinking, ‘Well, I should have won an Oscar for this or should have won for that and it didn’t happen,’ once I got over it many years ago, it wasn’t a big deal for me,” Jackson said.
“I always have fun going to the Oscars. I always look forward to getting a gift basket for being a presenter. I give stuff to my relatives; my daughter and my wife would take stuff out. It’s cool. … But otherwise, I was past it,” he added.

Jackson added that he never wanted the Oscars to be the measure of his success or failure. He believes that his yardstick of success is his happiness and he’s satisfied with what he’s doing.
“I’m not doing statue-chasing movies. You know: ‘If you do this movie, you’ll win an Oscar.’ No, thanks. I’d rather be Nick Fury. Or having fun being Mace Windu with a lightsaber in my hand,” he added.
