Samuel Jackson, now 75 years old, was among the chief guests at the opening night of the 15th annual TCM Classic Film Festival. The actor asserted that the film has had a profound impact on his life, and changed its course quite drastically.

It changed my life drastically,” he said in his trademark style. “In that I think this was the particular role that all of a sudden people started thinking I was the coolest mother f—er on the planet. So, I’m happy with that,” the actor added.

He also recalled the evening of the Cannes Film Festival when the film premiered back in 1994. He recounted the profound moment that he understood his own recognition amid the star-studded event. “Bruce [Willis] and I flew to Cannes,” he recounted, “And I was with all these guys, and we got out of the car, and they’re like, ‘Oh my God, John Travolta! Oh my God, Bruce Willis! Oh my God, who is the Black guy?'” he said.

Other than his iconic role as Jules, Manuel Jackson also credited director Quentin Tarantino’s dialogue-rich script for the film’s success. “Watching a lot of films, you realize at a certain point that an actor only talks one-third of the film,” he said. “The rest of the film is people doing sh–. So when I read that script, I was like, ‘This is amazing.'”

Given his theatre background, Jason also noted that the opportunity to be a part of the film with rich dialogues made him immensely grateful for the project. He also asserted that good dialogues are a hallmark of Tarantino’s writing. “Those characters were talking to each other and about things,” he said. “I was very overjoyed that I was going to be able to run my mouth that much in a movie.”

It has now been three decades since the release of ‘Pulp Fiction‘ but Jackson’s portrayal of Jules Winnfield is still just as widely celebrated by his fans as it was back in the day. The film remains an iconic piece of filmmaking that presumably changed the course of the careers of everyone involved in the project.
