Disney’s ‘Wizards of Waverly Place‘ was a beloved show that also rocketed Selena Gomez‘s fame into the industry. Selena played the character of Alex Russo for four seasons before the show ended in 2012 with her character inheriting the family’s magical powers.
Recently, the cast reunited for a reboot of the wizarding series. On the reboot set, Gomez and David Henrie, Alex’s elder brother, Justin Russo, felt like no time had gone by. Here’s what they said.
Selena Gomez Will “Always Be Grateful” To Her First Gig
Early this year, it was revealed that the Russo family was reuniting for a reboot of ‘Wizards of Waverly Place‘. The cast will reprise their original roles. The reboot will also include new wizards like Janice LeAnn Brown and Alkaio Thiele. The release date of the reboot is not announced yet.
Ahead of the release, Selena Gomez opened up about her experience of working on ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ reboot. “It was like a dream. I truly feel like it was the place I started and I will always be grateful for that time. And I just hope that this new chapter can bring a whole new audience joy the same way that we did when we were younger,” the ‘Calm Down’ singer said.
When the series ended, Selena thought she wouldn’t play the character again. However, twelve years later, the Disney cast is back to play our beloved Russo family.
When the show ended in 2012, Selena took over the family’s magical powers. Justin became the headmaster of WizTech after Professor Crumb retired. Meanwhile, Max took over his parents’ sandwich shop in Waverly Place and lost his powers.

“It Was Bonkers”: David Henrie On Working With Selena Gomez Again
David Henrie also revealed how he felt about working with his old co-star on the reboot of ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’. He said, “It was bonkers…..This is crazy.’ It was like a day hadn’t passed in 12 years. We were right back to where we were.”
David recalled discussing with Selena where their characters might be today. “Selena and I and my wife spent so much time over the years drinking wine and talking about where the characters would be,” he said.
Their conversation led the actor to an idea. He continued, “We looked at each other at one point and said, ‘I think we have a show. I think we should go talk to Disney about this.’ And we did. It took years of development to get it exactly where it needed to be.” Henrie also revealed that he is using his original wand from the series.
