Selena Gomez Is A Strong Advocate For Mental Health Awareness
At the recent SXSW panel titled ‘Mindfulness Over Perfection: Getting Real On Mental Health‘, Gomez talked about watching her 2022 Apple TV+ documentary ‘My Mind & Me‘ and feeling bad about the self-deprecation she openly promoted in it back then.
The documentary was focused on her mental health issues and captured much of the negative talk she made about herself. Gomez admitted that hearing the negative things she said about herself in the documentary’s early stages was distressing.
“It makes me sick to hear the things that I was saying about myself in the beginning. It bums me out,” the ‘Only Murders in the Building‘ actress said at the time. “It’s important to speak to yourself with kindness, but I don’t think I really understood that [at the start of the film],” she said.
Selena Gomez has been a strong advocate for mental health struggles since she founded Wondermind — an online community focused on mental health — along with her mother and co-founder Mandy Teefey.
The idea emerged early in Gomez’s career, and the company was officially launched in December 2021. It provides a safe space for people to discuss their mental health struggles openly.
