After winning the title, he could not fathom the win and said that his mother will be super stoked. “She’s proud of everything I do but this is something she can really brag about.” The tradition of naming the most desirable and sexy man on the planet originated in the mid-1980s. When PEOPLE Magazine started finding its footing in the industry greasing its magazine with Hollywood interest stories.
The magazine would collect primary data via oral interviews and then aim at the supermarket shopper demographics. They would inform them about their latest obsessions. It was in 1985 when Mel Gibson gave an interview for ‘Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome’ that the magazine spotted its first sexiest man alive. And that’s how the tradition was born and is still ongoing. Johnny Depp
The suave, broody, and bad boy looks of Johnny Depp made him appear in the 2003 edition of the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’. At that time, he was dating Vanessa Paradis with his two young children. He won the title, because “he arrived at his new, happy place without selling out, without becoming slick or packaged or politically correct, he is a hero to his fans and an idol to his young co-stars.”
In 2009, the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor again won the title and became the third person to win the title twice. At that time, Brad Pitt and George Clooney were the only two men winning the title. The slick star managed to look sexy even at the age of 46 and made it to the list as “Hollywood’s most irresistible iconoclast’.
Richard Gere

In the interview, an assistant director of ‘Legends of the Fall’ said, “the actor handled both women and wild horses in the film” making him “a man’s man who seems to be a woman’s man too.”
The ‘Snatch’ actor made his second appearance on the cover and became the man of the new Millenium. The new millennium also made him a one-woman man after he got married to Jennifer Anniston. A crew member told PEOPLE that the person was madly in love with the short-hair Pitt.
George Clooney
It is unanimous, indisputable, and undebatable that George Clooney is the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ whether he has the title or not. After Brad Pitt, he entered the elite club of the two-time winner of the coveted title. On the debut cover in 1997, not only his suave looks, but his loyalty also made him appear on the cover as recounted by his ‘ER’ co-star.
At the age of 45, the actor yet again appeared on the cover of the magazine. In 2006, the magazine named him the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’. Not just looks-wise, Clooney had an amazing run at the movies and Academy Awards. That year, he was nominated for the Award of ‘Best Director’, ‘Best Original Screenplay’, ‘Best Supporting Actor’. He won the award for ‘Syriana’ in the latter category.
