The 2000s Disney era was crazy indeed and gave us so many iconic stars. From Selena Gomez to Joe Jonas, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus — the list is endless. With shows like ‘Hannah Montana’, ‘Wizards Of Waverly Place’, and ‘Camp Rock’, Disney spun it’s magic on the audience.
But did you know that the iconic role of Mitchie Torres in ‘Camp Rock’ was originally offered to Selena Gomez? The ‘The Heart Wants What It Wants’ singer was the first choice for the Disney role. But reportedly she turned it down.
Why Did Selena Gomez Turn Down ‘Camp Rock’?
The ‘Only Murderer In The Building’ star was reportedly the first choice for Disney’s ‘Camp Rock’. But she turned down the role for her bestie Demi Lovato. During that time, Selena and Demi used to be the best of friends as they started their Disney careers at roughly the same time too.
This interesting fact was revealed by David DeLuise. DeLuise played Selena Gomez’s character Alex’s father in ‘Wizards Of Waverly Place’. Speaking to Wildchat Sports, David said, “I’ve never really said this story, but they offered Camp Rock to Selena.” He added, “Selena knew that if she passed on it, Demi would get the part. So she passed on it, which was very nice of her to do.”

What Happened To Selena Gomez And Demi Lovato’s Friendship?
Both Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato used to be the best of friends when they started out their careers with Disney. Selena Gomez even congratulated Demi Lovato on her 2020 Grammy Awards. But this came as a surprise to her as well since they have not been in touch for quite a long time.
Lovato had said in an interview with BAZAAR, “When you grow up with somebody, you’re always going to have love for them. But I’m not friends with her. I will always have love for her, and I wish everybody nothing but the best.” What really happened between them remains a mystery but it seems that they have grown apart over the years.
