It looks like Westeros’s Sophie Turner is all set to trade in the land of mythical dragons for some action-packed tomb raiding. According to reports, the actress is in final talks for the role of the legendary British archaeologist, Lara Croft, in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming live-action series adaptation of the popular ‘Tomb Raider’ video game.
The long-awaited series from Amazon is written and executive-produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Turner, who gained fame playing Sansa Stark, will compete with several other actresses for the role, including Emma Mackey of ‘Sex Education’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ star Lucy Boynton, but it seems like Turner might actually come out on top. Here’s all we know about it.
Sophie Turner Will Be Stepping Into Big Shoes With ‘Tomb Raider’
Sophie Turner would be taking on a highly coveted role in a film that represents high stakes in the legacy of previous actors like Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who have worn archaeologist Lara Croft’s boots on the big screen. Moreover, Phoebe Wailer-Bridge has a knack for smart, snappy storytelling, which she proved in ‘Fleabag’. So fans are naturally all keyed up to see how this reboot will shape up for a new generation.
Sophie Turner, meanwhile, has a rich acting legacy, especially with her role in the iconic ‘Game of Thrones‘. Her character as Sansa Stark is highly acclaimed and has won her many accolades for her captivating performance.
Since ‘Game of Thrones’ days, Turner has also been creating waves with projects like ‘The Staircase’, Netflix’s ‘Do Revenge’, and the upcoming ‘Haven’. Turner is represented by CAA, Independent Talent, and Hansen Jacobson.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge Has A Special Place In Her Heart For ‘Tomb Raider’
For Phoebe Waller-Bridge fans too, this is something worth looking forward to, as the writer-actress herself was over the moon when her role was announced in May. “If I could tell my teenage self that this was happening, I think she’d explode,” Waller-Bridge said at the time.
“Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life, and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators,” she added.
